• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

I’d like to suggest that all (9) people with this issue list their specific trim, factory tow pkg installed or not, build date from their door jam sticker, and city/state.

Example:
Trim, SX/P AWD
Factory tow with self leveling rear
Build, June 2019
San Clemente, CA

If this problem persists/grows to others, we can easily create a google doc that can be updated in real-time to share with Kia for analytics and faster remedy.
From what I see so far, we have 10 people in this forum who have actually said they have the same problem. All have AWD. I am not sure about user G-733156 so I have not counted that person and user ironraptor4 has a FWD, but it does not sound like that user has the same problem that the rest of us have, so I did not count it.

My data:
Trim, SX AWD
No factory tow
Build, May 20, 2019
Purchased in Louisville, KY - It now lives in my garage in Cincinnati.

Trim-SX AWD
Build Date-5/22
Fayetteville, Ga

SX-P AWD
Build Date : 5/20/19
No factory tow package
Estero, Florida

Would you look at that...the build dates look pretty similar. That could be another common denominator.

Indeed, it is interesting. Hopefully we will get the others to list so that we can get a bigger picture to evaluate.

How do you determine build date?

Just for data. Picked mine up early May and have had no discernable vibrations. SX awd

Our SXP was built May 20, 2019.

2,347 miles, all no vibration

My SXP was built June 21, 2019
No vibration

Wonder if it has to do with the 20's on your SX's? I have an EX with 18" wheels and have not noticed it. That said, think I'll go out and take a drive in the 65-70 MPH range. We're doing a 3,000-4,000 mile trip in several weeks. Will be a very unhappy camper if my new toy has wiggles, noises, shakes or anything else.

Took the EX out just now. It's 92 degrees. Cold tire pressure 33 (nitrogen). They got up to 35 while driving. Did 50, 60, 70, 75 and 80. NO SHIMMY OR SHAKES OR VIBRATIONS OF ANY SORT.
Did have a really SLIGHT whistle near the driver-side window. Thinking that may be a line from the paint protection.

1,600 kms. SX AWD with 20" rims. No vibrations. May 7/19 build.

Havent tested my 3 day old SX AWD yet on highway but will do so tomorrow when we go on a road trip. Here's my two cents after reading this...(and thinking about it overnight ;)

-Appears to be an issue on certain SX-AWD (here in Canada all trims are AWD). Interested to see if its a EX vs SX issue. (major drivetrain difference being 18 vs 20 wheels)
-Dealers in all their wisdom will try to eliminate common causes (and cheapest/easiest fix) - balance tires, blame road conditions etc. Likely all of the tech's are learning on the job. You'll get better results from larger dealerships that have 2020 Telluride "specialists" ...everyone is learning on the job with a small sample size out in market. They will do everything they can to NOT open the tranny or deal with real drivetrain issues. The best you can hope for is they ride along are able to "replicate/observe the issue" and agree its an issue worth escalating to the manufacturer. I wouldn't expect them to open the tranny or do any meaningful fix. You hope a smart tech can diagnose and help put a fix and feed it up to corporate who can dessiminate to the dealer network as a service bulletin. (or we can do that here).
-From the sounds of the issues its clear there is an engineering/design/assembly issue here. Given its not systematic its likely assembly or quality related. Because of the speed band (seems to be a 65-75 MPH) range i agree with the assessment of some sort of unfavourable drivetrain harmonics is the culprit. usually imbalance is consistent and is a linear progression as speed/force increases and does not appear/disappear. Harmonics issues are related to a convergence of frequencies / waves and usually evident in a certain range only. (confluence of events)
-Given the fact that the transmission is used on other models is a closed system unless this is seen on other KIA/Hyundai models likely its not a tranny issue but rather something between the tranny and wheels. trannys are usually tightly engineered but assembly issues do happen esp a "bad batch"
-It would be useful to figure out whether this is a rear or front wheel or mid-chassis issue to further isolate...where is the vibration coming from?
-could also be something related to wind baffling occurring. (think about how you open sunroof with all windows up). the wind hitting an object or unfavourable wind circulation at that speed could cause these "harmonics" to occur. at the right speed and conditions it may set off some waves that bounce off objects in the undercarriage/wheel wells that elicit this sort of vibration. bad aerodynamics too. maybe try to isolate where the sound is coming from?
-would be useful to see what other kia models have experienced this if any to compare
-given it seems a serious issue the best is for everybody who experiences this to report to dealer, squeaky wheel gets the grease! and then KIA engineering will put a team on it and find the real fix.
-I just got mine delivered in Canada a few days ago and build date was May 29. I believe the earliest dates of assembly I saw was late Jan 2019. Its still a first year model and May builds are considered mid-late cycle.

ok thats all thats in my head.

(People who don't buy first year new models may now comment below....) ;)

Great observations. One comment regarding your dates - of the 3 or 4 that reported back that had this issue and supplied their build date - all were in the range between May 20 - May 22.

My EX is May 24, 2019

Oh snap, workers at the plan were already thinking about Memorial Day weekend. This may very well be the reason.

So.. Called my dealer up asking if they have any news about any possible resolution for the vibration issue, the answer was no. He suggested calling Kia Customer Service and give them my complaint to help escalate the issue. So I did. The more they hear customers complaining the faster they are going to work to resolve this issue. The # is 1-800-333-4542
It will take you to roadside assistance first. You have to navigate through the computer to get a real person.

Last Friday, July 19, a factory rep visiting the dealership was asked about progress by my service department and there was no information. Not only was there no information but also no commitment that it would be addressed. Kia tech engineers were informed about the problem by dealers. It is scary to think it may be ignored. The 2020 Warranty and Consumer Information Manual book that came with the Telluride discusses actions to take state by state. If Kia intends to fix the issue, I wish they would let us know.

I have had my SX with 20" Michelin Tires for almost 1 month.
HAs anyone else with a similar vehicle get very noticebale vibrations especailly between 90-100 kms/Hr (55mph)?
I have had it into the dealership twice for this issue and they aren't able to isolate the problem despite agreeing there is a distinct issue.
