• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

Speaking of throwing rocks..... and I hate to bring this up.... but..... I have noticed that there is also a vibration at 38 or 39 mph that is similar to the vibration at 68 or 69 mph - just less vibration due to less speed. I am hoping that if they fix the 68 mph vibration it will fix this one too.
I noticed that the vibration was associated with rpm - so if I was in a lower gear but rpm was the same as that at the 68-72 mph then I had the vibration

Tire out of balance is usually felt between 35&45

Albert - one of the ones I tested after returning mine did the following over the 31 miles I drove it: Hum in the truck at the 63-73MPH mark, no vibration. About 10 miles in to it, vibration started between the 63-73MPH. Continued driving, vibration then started at speeds around 50 and I could not drive through it.

All that being said, it's likely the rear driveshaft is the culprit and you have a new one, so you should be golden!

Also, make sure they balance your tires, adjust the tire pressure to spec and check the alignment. The FWD one I kept had one tire out of balance by half an ounce and needed an alignment bad. My AWD was out of alignment as well (in addition to the vibration and bad transfer case. Lol).

Thanks for that info. I’ll be sure to take it on a long test drive to be sure it’s all good.

Just got my Telluride back - unfortunately not fixed other than my Sports visor problem. Service manager had tried four different shops to get rear drive shaft balanced, but could not find a shop that could do it. He had planned to order the drive shaft, but Kia told him to hold off until they figure out what the issue is. The interesting thing is the Service Manager said the Kia Field Engineer was by yesterday for an issue on another vehicle and he asked him what he knew about the vibration issue going on with the Tellurides. The Kia Engineer stated he had not heard about it - makes you wonder about the lack of communication within Kia when it’s Field Engineers are not up to speed on a significant issue in AWD Tellurides. The Service Manager stated that Kia in the past focuses resources on one of the problem vehicles in the field until they determine scope and fix for a problem. Then past the fix on to dealers. So hoping that @Albert Ruiz ‘s vehicle is that problem vehicle that resources have been focused on and once they are convinced they have the problem diagnosed and fix implemented. Then the rest of us will get ours fixed - here’s hoping that anyway.
Thanks @Albert Ruiz for keeping us to speed on your situation!

I’m thankful for everyone like

Im very appreciative of everyone on this forum who have shared their experiences and what their dealers have tried. This has been a collaborative effort. I’m just sorry I couldn’t get the ball rolling on my end faster. I have a job that pulls me away from home and it makes it hard to stay on top of things. Right now I’m on standby for this hurricane. I’m hoping I’m able to stick around long enough to see this thru. It seems like there is a light at the end of this tunnel. KIA says they got it fixed and I plan to give it a very long and thorough test drive tomorrow. Hopefully for all of us they got it figured out.

ColMo, I'm sorry to hear your issue hasn't been resolved. Did the service department say why the outside shop couldn't balance the shaft or just that they can't find a place?

I mentioned to you two weeks ago about the shop by me, Mr. Driveshaft. Family-owned business forever. That is all they do - driveshafts. From regular vehicles, race cars, dump trucks. You name it.

I'd insist the dealer ship out your shaft to this guy. When I spoke to them, he told me, if he can get it on his machine, he can balance it.

Maybe the dealer can email the shop pics and some measurements to start.

If Kia says, "Replace the shaft," seeing this problem has appeared from Mid-May through at least early August build dates, who's to say a new one will any good? They're probably manufactured by a third party company in China.

Here's the info:

Thanks - might be an option - waiting to see @Albert Ruiz ‘s outcome - might be combo shaft & differential. My understanding from Service Manager that the drive shaft companies were in San Antonio/Austin area - didn’t elaborate on why they couldn’t balance.

That's a good copy, ColMo. Mine was the rear driveshaft and transfer case, supposedly.

Update... Sooo
Dealer just called me...
Said he had good news and bad news...
Good news is they changed out the driveshaft and Differential and took it for a ride this morning... NO VIBRATION!!!
Bad news...
during the test drive a rock flew and hit the windshield. 🤦‍♂️ They are in the process of having it replaced. We should be able to pick it up tomorrow.
Yesterday I was told the Differential was changed out and it still had an issue. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I will know for sure when I pick it up tomorrow and take it for a ride. I will let you all know what the outcome is.
First the Telluvibe, then the Tellucrack! Can't the KIA defect gods throw you a bone? #justwantatellithatworks

ColMo... not sure where in Texas you are located, but I've had good luck in the past from Randy's Driveshaft Services in Houston. It wasn't a Kia, but they did excellent work. Not sure whether or not they could balance one from a Telluride.

Thanks - I live basically in north San Antonio - I will keep this in mine as we progress down this TelliVibe journey. The Aggies have a “Big Game” tomorrow-I bet that is on your agenda🙂

I am experiencing the same issue at around 70. Tech came to dealer and they put a new drivetrain in it. Didn't help. taking is back to dealer on 9/25 another tech from Kia coming in

UPDATE...
I was told that they replaced the Rear Differential and installed the New Driveshaft. I was cautiously optimistic when I picked it up but After a 30 mile test drive at highway speeds up to 85 and mostly between 65 & 75, absolutely no vibration. Wifie is very happy to have her Telly back.

Hopefully the success of your fix KIA passes on to other dealers with Tellurides with the similar problem. I plan to push back next week to my dealer & KIA to get parts ordered to repair mine. They already know that my drive shaft is part of the problem. Thanks for keeping us update.

So which part(s) were causing the problem? What about the transfer case?
