I took my Telluride in to get my AC checked since it was blowing warm air. After 3 days I was told that my condenser was damaged probably from a rock? They wanted $1400 to fix it. I was told that it was not covered under warrantee. I was furious and immediately called KIA HQ’s and opened a case since I have noticed others had the same issues as I am having. I spoke to the Service Manager and he was not much help. I said that I am not paying $1400 for what I believe should be a recall to fix this issue and add additional protection to the AC. I explain that all the commercials with the telluride are showing it in the mud spinning around and this should not happen from normal driving on the highway. I went ahead and called my insurance and filed a comprehensive claim. This is covered with insurance and I feel as though someone should have mentioned this to me instead of trying to get $1400 from me. I will have to pay a $100 deductible and have it repaired. I am ok with that. KIA needs to do more and protect us owners. I believe a recall is necessary for this issue. I love my Telluride SX. I bought my SX when the weather was cold so I did not check the AC. I suggest that the AC be checked prior to driving off the lot. Thank you.

2020 Telluride SC AC issues

I can not think of one model of car that does not have an ac condenser exposed?
I can not remember a winter when I have not heard of someone getting a rock and taking one out. It happens.
Lets see here. Quick google search.
Lexus are really bad at it. Honda people are demanding a recall. Toyota has a few. Oh my Chevy has a ton. Ford as a few.
The weird one? Tesla, apparently if you hit the front bumper just right or bottom out at an angle, it will destroy the AC condenser. Just rolling too close to a curb. Weird.
now this does not mean you don't have a point and you did everything you could at this point, including informing us that it might be a problem.
But out of 60,000 cars, there are going to be freak accidents. I was over on another forum where they demanded that the car be recalled because they looked down for 2 seconds and drove off the road, 3 minutes after they left the dealer.
So what can we do? Well we keep each other informed and we don't over react. Just because it happens a few times does not mean there is a design flaw. It means that everyone gets hit and killed by a rock sometimes.
And before you start, I am a motorcycle rider. Trust me, they are everywhere and they really really can do some damage at highway speeds.

Previously, I always wondered why one model comes to us with small holes in the radiator grille and for the American market with large ones. I thought the roads here are ideal, after moving to Canada and traveling around America I was even more surprised - why are there such holes in the radiator grille when the roads are far from ideal, there is a lot of dirty sand, road debris and stones.
For the protection of radiators and condenser, I always put a fine mesh in the radiator grille. Need a net, scissors, plastic clamps and 2 hours of time. Well, cold beer is optional.
