• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 update 1 Available

Got great cell service too, maybe because my UVO expired and I didn't renew with the top tier package. It's really no big deal as when I'm in the car, there are windows and the outside temp is displayed on the dash for me to make my own conclusions what the weather is like...lol
That’s exactly why. Weather is updated via connected services (UVO) as of 14.0. No UVO, no weather.

So far we have two people (post 355 & 438) who confirmed Forca internet weather does not work without paid UVO subscription. And two people (post 420 & 416) that claimed Forca worked even after UVO subscription ended.

Based on the wording in the update notes, I would call a lapsed UVO subscription not killing the weather functionality a mistake/pleasant surprise.

I subscribed to UVO for the wife's Forte5 SX. Didn't for the Telly. Forca works for me.

Based on your purchased dates, you’d still be within your one-year UVO free trial.

I renewed my UVO, but not the highest one but the second highest to allow remote start, so I'm guessing for weather to work, you have to have the highest plan.

Not sure if I should be using this thread or the 2021 Map N Soft thread, but here goes. If I have the software version listed in the image, I need to update, correct? For those of you that downloaded the update, did it also update the firmware? I've been reading this and the other thread and I'm not sure if I need to download or buy the stick from them.

You have the 14.0 update (the one that was released originally in April 2020). The only difference in the latest 14.5 update (August) is maps, there are no other additional features. You really only need to take the effort to update if you have significant recent road changes in your area. Otherwise, it probably isn’t worth it.

Anyone know when to expect version 15?
“We usually release a new map update twice a year (in March and September) or once a year (in March).”

Based on their wording, I would say March. But of course, everything is always subject to change.

I'm having trouble with adding to usb. I dragged folder over and copied data, but when I plugged it into telluride didn't recognize usb data.

Two things -
1) you need to use the install program
2) Make sure that you are using the data port and not the power port

Thanks for reply, the middle usb right? I used to program to download, but after it finished it didn't copy to usb. Now it only gives me option to re-download

If I remember correctly, what you download is the installation program which you run which then downloads the data and installs it on the USB. Yes, I believe it is the middle port. The one with, I believe a lightning bolt, is the power port.

Missing album art from HD radio, doesn’t scroll song artist/title either in the main screen unless you disable HD radio
To follow up, HD album art eventually worked again. Maybe all the images/data had to buffer first?

I was also unable to get the Kia downloader software to copy files to the USB drive. I formatted my 64GB drive to FAT32 although others have mentioned NTFS also worked. I may have just been copying files over wrong while using NTFS.

Drag and drop the files in the downloaded folder directly to root directory of the USB drive. Don’t copy the folder itself containing the files.

CANADA / CANADIAN software / map update

UPDATED to reflect the helpful comments from @bruesjoh04 👍 !

I just received my 2021 Telluride SXL Nightsky in Calgary Canada, manufactured in September 2020.

Here's what it came loaded with the nav/technology head:
MODEL: ONAS.SSBMC.CA
SW: ON.CAN.SSW_M.V003.003.191203
MAP: 12.47.44.510.205.3

Too bad the Kia update version numbers are so non-intuitive. This is a map / software version 13.5 and well prior to the more recent updates 14.0 and 14.5, so looks like at least some Tellurides (in my case manufactured in September 2020) may be shipping with software way behind, at least those coming to Canada - a bit surprising.

I was able to download the Kia Navigation Updater from the update.kia.com site, and found the above Canadian model number ONAS.SSBMC.CA listed for 2020 Telluride (although year 2021 is not there yet) as an option, and I selected it. Within the Updater I selected my USB drive as the destination, so the program will automatically format the USB (32 GB in my case), and then download the update (24GB) and automatically copy it to the USB. FYI the update is initially copied to somewhere on your hard drive first, before it is then copied to your USB. Before exiting Updater, the program gives you the option of keeping or deleting the temporary working copy on your hard drive.

From looking at the files on the USB, it appears that this will update the software to ON.CAN.SSW_M.V004.001.200702. Not sure what map number this will correspond with.

Tomorrow I will give this update a go, and will report back. If there are any fellow Canadians who have gone through this update process and who can confirm this approach or point out an any errors, much appreciated.

Based upon feedback from others, I will do the Quick (~30 min) update, not the much longer (3+ hours) General update. Once the Quick update has been successfully done, I'll see if I can find out for future reference what exactly is the difference between the Quick and General update.

I will do the full (not quick) update, given that I seem to be several versions behind. Fingers crossed!
Pretty much everything has already been covered here, but I’ll address a few things for you.

You have 13.5 (map version 12.47.xx).

2021 Tellurides were shipping with old software all summer (they were coming with 13.5 long after 14.0 was released). At some point they at least started shipping with 14.0, but I’m not sure when that happened or if models intended for different markets would have affected that.

I would not recommend doing anything other than the quick update unless you really do not value your time and have nothing better to do. They recommend doing the quick update, so why do anything other than that? Updating from relatively old software would not change that recommendation in any way.

I have always kept my Telluride’s software updated, but since my wife is the one that drives our Palisade and doesn’t care, I skipped an update. We went from 13.5 (what you have) to 14.5 (the August 2020 update, as of this minute most current). Quick update. <30 mins. Not a single issue.

So my Quick update (re post 457 above) went well.

My vehicle is in the garage and I didn't want to leave it running while the update was performed, so I popped the hood and connected up my battery maintainer/trickle charger to the battery to ensure its voltage was maintained throughout the update without my having to leave the vehicle running. Done this 1000+ times, but still triple checked that I had the polarities right + to +, - to -, before connecting, so as not to fry the electrical by hooking up backwards. I carefully shut the hood without crimping the wires, to get rid of the hood open warning, out of an abundance of caution; but others have reported leaving the hood ajar with the warning message on during the update, and having no problems.

Got in the vehicle, one press of the Start button to turn on Accessory mode, system screen booted up, and I plugged in the USB to the center port marked USB in the console compartment. The system seemed to automatically read the USB with no action by me and brought up the Update confirmation prompts. I selected the Quick update, and away it went, with status updating on the screen. Came back 30 minutes later and the update was completed.

Before and after photos below. I note that there are new versions in all 4 categories (SW, FW, Nav App, and Map). Not sure what else the General update option would include. I asked the tech support via the KIA Canada office what the difference between Quick and General was, but answer was pretty vague. He indicated the Quick update should be sufficient and used in most cases, and the much longer General update (3+ hours) would only be used in rare cases where the system was having huge problems and requiring a total reload and reset.
My USB stick is the faster 3.0 (blue plug center), but it looks like the port in the vehicle is the slower 2.0 (white plug center) interface, so transfer speed limited to the slower 2.0 limit.

With the move to update 14.5 there are number of new options (for example, playing Nature Sounds while you drive lol) and other changes, and I am still figuring them all out. Things seem to be working ok, but the Speed Limit and School Zone indications are no longer showing (eg on my heads-up display), which they did previously with 13.5, so I need to figure out if a setting needs to be reset or what's up.

My UVO setup is also not fully completed and I need to talk with the Canadian tech support line on Monday when they are next open, to prove that I am really the registered owner lol!! I have the app on my phone and a registered account on the web site, but ran into problems with the UVO system assigned random access code when I tried to verify link with vehicle.

The UVO-generated access code is a mix of upper and lower case letters. It is pretty hard to tell the difference between I and l (first one is capital "I" as in Idiot, second one is lower case l as in loser). Hint the l (ell) is slightly taller than the I (capital eye). By the time I figured out which was which, I had used up my three tries, and was locked out. I am sure I am not alone in having run into that problem.

I'll also note that once you do the update with your USB stick, the UVO system seems to write a flag or something onto the stick so that the update can no longer be recognized should you want to redo the update for some reason. I'm not sure at what point in the update process that this occurs. Hopefully it will only occur at the end once the update is complete. But it may (if poorly designed) occur prior to the update being completed, in which case if you cancel the update for some reason, and then try to do it again by re-inserting the USB, the car system will not recognize the USB, and give you an error message something to the effect that "no valid files are found on the USB". For that reason you may want to NOT automatically delete the update on your hard drive (in addition to on the USB) which is an option in the download process, UNTIL you can confirm that the update was successful. Otherwise you will have to download it all over again, and rewrite to the USB. This tip may be useful to folks having trouble getting their USB recognized for some reason. YMMV.

I'm happy that there is the capability to download and install updates yourself from online, without the pain, time, cost of having to order a USB. But as a systems engineer in a past life, I get very frustrated by poorly documented software and programming practices. And not doing simple things like imbedding the update number and/or date in some part of the software / firmware / map version numbering, to make things a little more intuitive.

Hope something in all of this is of assistance to others, and avoids wasted time and needless frustration ....

Just did this on our newish 2021. Just left the hood open with a charger connected, everything updated fine. Yes, the hood open was displayed in the instrument cluster, but everything seems to have updated. I'll test it out if I ever drive it. About 5 weeks old and only has 450 miles on it, 100 of those were driving home from the dealer. I'm self isolating due to covid. Maybe I'll just drive to Tahoe and test out the AWD in the snow. :-)
