• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Got my Prier hot/cold faucet installed today in the garage. It's hooked up to soft water. My father in law was able to help install it. Saved me a boat load of $. Can't wait to hook up the power washer and give the Telly a good wash tomorrow.

Excellent! That will help immensely with reducing water spots. I also chose to add an additional filter to help remove more contaminants before washing the car.

What is a safe psi and tip to use when power washing your vehicle, using an electric power washer?

Thanks! What about the PSI? I'm using and electric power washer, what's the maximum psi that's safe to use?

It's safe to use anything from 1200-4000 PSI, you just need to avoid getting the nozzle right up to the paint. If you've ever used a commercial hand wash, they are in the 4000 PSI range.

A separate question, when will work? I bought the Adams 2.0 because it has sustained 2000PSI and 1.4GPM which is about the minimum for a foam cannon to work well. Also, don't be fooled by the descriptions for most of them that say 2200 PSI and 1.7 GPM, those are the peak values but the do not maintain that flow and pressure while running.

All that being said, it's still not quite enough for a multi nozzle under chassis sprayer. I use the Ryobi from Home Depot that has only three and it seems to be working but would work better with a higher volume, higher PSI washer.

Thank you, that is most helpful. I have a Ryobi 1900 psi electric pressure washer. I was just making sure that would be safe to use.

Spent Labor Day laboring away on my Telly. Washed, detailed, applied CG Hydrocharge and Hydroslick. Cleaned leather and added protectant. Also installed window visors. 20210906_191408.webp

I was able to give the Telly a good wash today. Was able to hook up my ryobi 1900 in to my prier hot/cold faucet that was recently installed in the garage. It's so great not having to bring my 100ft hose around from the side of the house to get everything hooked up. Also I'll be able to give the Telly a winter wash here and there if weather permits!

Here's a before and after....the after pictures are from me scoping out some new fishing spots.

Never get any coatings from a dealership. If serious about detailing don't even let them wash it before delivery!

I keep thinking about this prior to mine arriving at dealership (Ebony Black). Scared they'll swirl the paint. Any ideas/suggestions/experience on handling this with the dealer? Seems odd demanding they not wash the vehicle prior to my taking delivery, but I'm willing to ask if it means I can bring it home and wash it properly. Would appreciate additional comments on this. Thanks!

It's a KIA SUV, not a Bugatti. Let them wash it. If they screw up, let them fix it.

They won't fix the fine spider webs from the rags they used. They are obligated to wash it ...not detail it. I had mine claybarred before ceramic coating and XPEL PPF. That way you know no swirls or spider webs. My late son worked as a wash man at Infiniti and claimed to use the same bucket (no Grit Guard) so I never let them wash at service intervals. If you want to protect...tell them no washy-washy and take straight to a detailer for surface prep.

Long overdue thread. More than a dozen threads talk about PPF and Ceramic coatings on the site.

Consolidating that to one thread.

Feel free to share ideas, pictures, equipment recommendations and of course list killer dealers anyone finds out there relating to detailing.

My Telluride has XPEL Ultimate as a "highway" package. Full front bumper, partial hood, partial fenders, full mirrors.

IGL Kenzo 4 year Ceramic coating.
IGL Leather Ceramic coating on inside leather surfaces - did this myself. Very easy.

Foam shampoo of choice: Gyeon Quartz Bathe+ (1/5 of cannon shampoo and 4/5 warm water)
Bucket soap - Carpro Reset
Wheel cleaner - Chemical Guys Signature Wheel cleaner
Quick detailing Spray - Carpro Reload & Ech2o aka Magic Merlin Mix

As you can see I'm really into this stuff and some others on here are as well - let's get this rolling!
I'm getting this Ziebart Premium package detailing done on Oct. 12. (See screenshot below.) I'm also adding tinted windows. I'm including the quote below. I've had Ziebart work done before on a previous car and I'm satisfied with their work. I drive a lot over mountain passes in winter in Idaho and Montana and there's always a lot of road sand and small rocks. The semi trucks kick that debris up and it can be damaging to cars. This will provide a lot of protection.

Ask whether their prep includes a wash. Tell them your detailer wants it as is -- no wash, no decals, etc. No need for double work to be done.

Any reputable detail shop always performs paint correction prior to applying the ceramic coating. It's up to you if you want them to wash it or not. If you plan to go straight from the dealer to the detail shop, let the detailer wash and prep it.

Paint Protection film is worth investing in of you do a lot of winter driving. Before you invest thousands in it, watch the videos from Scott HD (we've posted a number of them in this thread). He has performed a number of long term tests on PPF and it will help you select the brand that will work the best.

Noticed this today. Dont know if its tar, asphalt or what. Anyone have suggestions from removing? I tried simply spraying with XPEL detail spray and wiping with mircorfiber, but that didnt do anything. Dont want to scrub it. Note it has ceramic coat.

Thanks!
