2023 Kia Telluride Discussion

A few thoughts on the ‘23…

- I like the new digital dash, but it’s not a massive upgrade. It’s the same as in all the other Kia vehicles with a digital dash.
- Not crazy about the new headlights. I think Kia goofed with this.
- The Nightfall grille is nicer than the X-Line trim.
- No wireless Android Auto/CarPlay? Big miss.
- No power 2nd/3rd rows? Another big miss, and kinda inexcusable since the Palisade has them.
- Surprised they kept the traditional shifter. Fine with it, but the push buttons wouldn’t bother me.
- The HUD is supposedly upgraded, but how? Supposedly it’s larger and can display more info, but the current HUD is pretty darn good. Maybe it displays names/phone numbers from calls? Would have liked to see a picture of this.
- How much more substantial is the price increase going to be?

Overall, I‘m a tiny bit disappointed, although I think it will still be the best SUV in the segment. But Night Ranger isn’t leaving me anytime soon…
I think you hit the nail on the head with a lot of your thoughts IMO. I like the new digital cluster just because I love the tech stuff, but I have had a 2020 sonata which had the same digital display and after the first month or two you realize how its not really customizable at ALL and not nearly as helpful as you think it would be unfortunately. Im still blown away by lack of wireless apple car play/android auto. I dont get that at all and just like you I want to know what else the HUD is going to show, or how much more integrated is it. if you could tell me I could get my apple care play nav to work both in the digital display and show up on the HUD then I would be all in on this new model. but i highly doubt that it is

How did they manage to align NF and off the beaten path? I don't want to off road, I just want the blacked out trim. Those two things have nothing to do with each other.
I think the X-Line is more of just a look of being able to go off the beaten path but not really...since it is replacing the Nightfall. It gives it a more rugged/sporty look without actually having to upgrade to the X-Pro that can truly go off the beaten path. That is just my guess...lol

I could be wrong, but I thought I saw somewhere that the new HUD has some colored light features versus just being all one color? I don't know what it looks like now. I am still waiting on my first ever Telly to arrive...supposed to be early May. I am now kind of hoping they will somehow not get it done on time and it rolls to a 2023..haha. I doubt that will happen but I can dream. I just hate to get a 2022 and two months later the 2023 hits the lots..sigh. It's been a long 7 months waiting..

Please educate me . . . Why is there so much heartburn over losing the NF appearance package? You can have this done or do it yourself for much less. It’s just a spray or wrap on the roof rails and the grille with black rims. What else am I missing? It looks like the XLine and XPro give you actual enhancements other than just appearance changes. $1,300 before markup seems like a steep price for just a few cosmetic mods that can easily be done aftermarket. Same as ambient lighting. $450 for something you can do yourself for less than $30. I’m just not understanding.

I agree, especially when you you loose about 2 cubic feet of cargo space for the mechanism.

If wireless android auto/carplay means I can't connect my AI box, then I don't want it. I haven't had a chance to test it but I think it does work on vehicles with wireless AA/Carplay since those vehichles still use wired cable as a fallback for AA and Carplay in case your phone doesn't support it. If it can still support my AI box then I'm fine with having wireless AA/Carplay.

Forgive me, but how do we know the Nightfall is going away? People say the X-Line trim is replacing it, but NF is not a trim, it's a package. Did anything specifically mention that NF is going bye-bye?

There were several articles and reviews confirming it.

Its specifically mentioned by Kia as being replaced.

"The new Telluride introduces two new trim levels – X-Line and X-Pro – for Kia owners who choose to go off the beaten path every so often. Both all-wheel drive models offer a roster of exclusive upgrades and enhancements over other Telluride trims. As seen below, the X-Pro model builds off the X-Line model. Furthermore, the X-Line model replaces the former Telluride Nightfall Edition."

All the trim, silver plastic on the bumpers, grill, roof rails would all cost well over $1300 to do right. Wrap and plastidip will not last as long as the factory finish. 20" wheels start at about $900 and powdercoating factory wheels runs $500-600. There's no way you're getting the NF look for under $1300 without a ton of diy that won't last but a year or so. If you want that look, $1300 from the factory is the way to go.

I have over 1400 into my wheels and painting just the silver parts of my grill.

That's very unfortunate. The NF looks stellar, and I much prefer the black trimming over chrome (of any color). I really think Kia goofed up the front end (hoping it looks better in person) and the seat stitching.

I like the 2022 model better than the 2023 model. I was worried that I would be missing out by ordering the 2022 model instead of the all new features on the 2023, not worried anymore. I like the telluride spelled out on the front it looks like that’s missing on the 2023. I also like the headlights better on the 22 model. Don’t like the inside as well either. That’s just my opinion. Still waiting on my 2022 however.

I see your points. But why offer this as a package instead of just making it a standard part of a trim? I’m thinking it’s because they weren’t totally committed to offering it maybe because enough interest isn’t there because there are some alternative options to compete with. I have personally seen many luxury cars that have professionally wrapped and it offers a layer of protection over the factory finish. Appearance packages from the factory are confusing to me because they appeal to people who want a certain look but many people are willing to make it also unique in the process. I love black rims on a car but I don’t particularly like the NF rims and there are so many aftermarket options that you can shop for that give you a look you want without the cost of replacing an oem rim if it gets damaged.

Don't know if anyone has seen this but thought I'd post it.

If you want to wrap things to last, you need to remove the pieces. That's the big expense in wrapping trim. Otherwise it peels. I had my grill wrapped but didn't want to have to pay them to remove the bumper cover, etc to remove the grill to wrap around the edges. It started to peel after 9 months and took rock chips easily. Painting it to match the body was twice the cost but more durable and a better match.

We still don't know all the details. There could be an EX X-Line and an SX X-Line or they could be completely different. Whether they consider it a trim or a package is irrelevant. They could've called NF a trim instead of a package if they had wanted.

OK, I just asked my SA to switch me over to a 2023. 😬

I love the more rugged look so I'm hoping to get an X-line. I cannot afford an X-Pro, so I'm hoping the X-line is priced just like an S with AWD like the Sorrento. I love everything about the new interior and exterior and I'm really glad they kept the knobs and shifter. I like the blue, (is that blue in the pictures at the auto show the midnight lake blue color?) and I also like the jungle green color but some pictures look tan and some pictures look almost lime.

I realize this will probably make my wait time much longer, as now I'm starting over in line (once I can get back in line haha). And I hope I don't get screwed over by price or color options/captains chairs. But I'm pretty stoked about what I'm seeing in the 2023.
I am thinking the same thing, but for different reasons. I want the updated interior and also want the nightfall edition blacked-out look. I do not want all-terrain tires or 18" wheels, and do not care about the badging, the higher tow rating, or the 110V outlet. I hope the X-line version can more-or-less be optioned the same as the 2022 SX NTP, or that the X-line Pro can be optioned to have the X-Line tires/wheels.

I think they said the XLine replaces the NF so I presume people can get it on either the EX or the SX. Not sure if the XPro requires an SX.

There is an option to remove the grille and trim and have it wrapped for a couple hundred bucks separately. There is subset of people willing to do this or even dealers that offer it as add-on so maybe that’s why they didn’t see a need to keep it. My point is that they didn’t call it a trim which makes me think they were not committed to keeping it. A package is a lot easier to drop than a trim because it’s just a swap in fewer parts during the manufacturing. They don’t have to reclassify the vehicle and change door jam specs and components that affect ground clearance, etc.
