3 Carseats?

Hello! Newbie here. I've been looking at the Telluride for a while, and recently found out I was pregnant with twins (and have a 16 month old already), so now I definitely need to trade my Jeep Wrangler in for something bigger. Does anyone have 3 carseats in their Telluride- particularly rear facing? I'm not sure if there will be enough room with the 3rd row for a large stroller that we will now need to fit in the trunk. Also, do I go with the second row bench or captain chairs? We went to the dealership and they didnt seem particularly helpful. I really want this SUV, but want to make sure it will work for our upcoming situation.

Also, in NY (Long Island) - anyone know of a dealership not charging above MSRP? Will travel a little bit...

On car seats, I recommend you search "car seats" (check thread titles only box) as there are several threads with a lot of information. There is also a good video from Kia of Muncie on YouTube about 3 car seats.

Your situation is unique - 3 rear facing car seats would be difficult. I personally would recommend the bench setup with two rear facing on large section of bench and then one forward facing in 3rd row. But, that setup is only best for older kids who can get in and out of car seat without help.

3 rear facing seats on second row is only even remotely possible with the bench - and you won't be able to access 3rd row - but sounds like you'd need to have it folded anyway for large strollers.

The Telluride could possibly work for you, but I think there are better options like a full size SUV when you need to transport all 3 kids in one vehicle.

There are a handful of dealers that keep a Telluride in stock for test driving. If you get/have the three car seats, you can try them out. This may be the best approach as you can see first hand if the vehicle will fit your family's needs or if a different vehicle is needed.

I dont think 3 will fit across with the bench. I have a brother in law with three small kids 2 rear facing and one forward facing and it fits nicely in his Ram 1500. The Telluride is not that big. I would get captains chairs for sure and put the eldest kid in the 3rd row. The 2 row split on the 3rd row should get you enough room for a big stroller. I have tested the Bob double running stroller and also the Uppa Baby Vista with the extra seat and platform rider in the car and they all fit fine. Although, I think it will be fairly awkward to get the 3rd child out the back or get them in a 5 point harness car seat. I would probably look at a van or bigger SUV if I had 3 kids, I would want lots of space! I only have 2 so the telluride size is perfect. Good luck and congrats!

Congratulations on the twin pregnancy! We have twins as well. Warning, twinfants are hard, but it does get easier. Ours are 16 now and have been amazing.

I don't yet have a Telluride, but when we test drove the Palisade (we still haven't found a Telly to test drive), we noticed how little space there was with the third row in use. It's totally fine for us now, but when we had the "bus" (that was what we called our twin stroller), it would have been a tight fit for sure. I don't know if you're getting a stroller for three or not, but you might be very tight on space.

Honestly, nothing beats a minivan for when kids are little. The sliding doors are a dream and the cargo space is fabulous. We had the Honda Odyssey. If you need AWD, I hear good things about the Sienna. A full sized SUV would also work.

I know the Palisade is slightly smaller (I think it's rated at 18 cubic feet and the Telly is, I think, 21 cubic feet with the seats all up), but I recommend seeing one of them in person before you buy one. Three kids and all of their gear take up a lot of space.

Welcome to the Forum. Try Karp Kia in Rockville Center, ask for Claudio Perez. Last time I checked, they were $1,000 above MSRP, which is not bad in this area. Stamford Kia in CT was also at MSRP but only taking new orders for 2021's. Good Luck!

Congrats on the twin pregnancy. With the infant car seats with detachable seat base, you should be able to access the third row “easier” than with the All-in-one seats. By sliding the 2nd row seat forward without the car seat attached. With two AIO in the 2nd row, the only way you are getting into the third row is by moving the 1st row seats forward and then you will be able to slide the 2nd row seat. (unless you load the baby in the 3rd row from the trunk) You will need to be able to fit through the opening of about 1.5 feet wide clearance behind the 2nd row to get your third child back in the third row chair.

Note that this is all based on using the LATCH system on the 2nd row rear facing seats. Also know that the 2nd row seats will not be able to fold forward, only slide forward using the manual adjustment under the seat.

I am not familiar with how small a double/triple stroller is when collapsed, but if it can fit in the trunk with at least one of the 3rd row sears folded, you should be good to go.

It should get a little easer when your eldest can sit front facing in the third row.

Middle seat in the 3rd row using only the lap belt? Never thought of that. Nice. I would probably put a car seat mirror on that middle headrest to keep an eye on that infant. The front facing seat on the left uses its own seat belt or the car's? How hard is it to buckle with the infant car seat right next to it if using the car's?

I will say a minivan would be better for 3 little ones, but since you're here and not the Pacifica forums, I would recommend getting the 2nd row captain chairs. That will allow you to slide the seat forward and give you better access to belt in your older child. There's also an underfloor storage bin in the cargo area too for assorted baby stuff.

Reviving an old post to show everyone what two FFC convertibles in the captain chairs and one RFC carrier seat looks like. Travelled all day with this setup. Left the carrier in the base the whole time. To get the baby in/out the RFC in the 3rd row, I just folded down the empty 3rd row seat and climbed in. At the end of the day when baby was sleeping, I removed the carrier from the base. Still doable. I imagine it would be slightly harder if you had a lot of groceries or cargo, but not impossible.

Ideally you would want a bench seat but I don't know if that can handle 3 seats across which would leave the 2 captain chairs and in my opinion, they struggle to fit the base properly because of the large bolsters like the front seats. The seats end up sitting crooked when you tighten them. Obviously this is the wrong forum for minivan avocation, but you seem tailor made for the Kia Carnival. In the end, you can make almost any vehicle "work", just at what compromises. Good luck.

As a Chrysler Pacifica owner, I concur with the above.

In my experience, bench seats have bolsters that can get in the way of carseat installation as well. I’ve never seen the Telluride’s bench so I can’t speak to that one though. Probably best to check fit in person.

It looks like you have added some additional padding or else to raise it a bit which may of helped. The base I was using was extra wide for my situation. Looking at your vehicle, having 3 in cars seats is going to be an adventure in ANY vehicle. I will get off my minivan soapbox, but one added feature that is immensely favorable is the ability for the rear doors to slide and open for removal of the seats. With the Telly big rear doors and the need to open them very wide to swing out the carriers, you will be looking to wide spaces and the cars next to you will be very susceptible to getting hit by the doors.

Totally agree with you on the minivan for 3-carseat family. I’d get a Carnival for the next 3-5 years, then maybe change cars.
