Ambient lighting EXTREMELY DIM.

Wow. Yours are very bright. I will take a picture of mine on level 10 with Refreshing Sea. I feel the same as the original poster - mine is very dim. I also got the lighting package option where the button is inside of the cup holder area. Those lights are for the feet areas in the front cabin, and brighter. But your door trim and glove compartment area are significantly brighter than mine.
I have same issue. Fine brightness in park then much dimmer when moving. This is most likely manufacturer being overly cautious about distraction. Not good. Don’t know if adjustment can be made at dealership service. dept.

Strange thing is in Canada you have the ability to dim while driving or full brightness while driving I wish they had that in the United states!

Glad I saw this thread, we were discussing this over the weekend and I thought they were dimmer recently and there was a problem. I also noticed when I locked the doors one night and looked in the window the lights were brighter, has to be in park for that.

Correct. I asked kia and the company who makes the NAV updates why this is different then Canada and they couldn't give me a reason. So hopefully there will be a update for the November release.

Yes, updates on this feature would be nice. Option to have it brighter as well as the option to leave it at full brightness would be nice to have. As is, it doesn't really add anything to the ambiance. We have very similar lighting in the X7, and that lights up nice and bright. Stays bright when in drive as well.

If I were you I would reach out to kia as well. The more of us that request this feature the better, especially since it is already coded for the Canadian market 👍

I didn't see that option... could you elaborate on where to find it precisely? Thanks!

Ohhh ok, I guess it's a 2022 feature? I don't have that checkbox in that submenu in my 2020. I'll have to wait a few weeks then :)

Strange, do you have the purple screen latest update? I went to see a 2022 at the dealer and still no dimmer on off feature but I assumed it was because of being in America.

Ah, no, I didn't do the latest updates 😅 Thanks for the info!

It’s not actually a feature intended for the Telluride. It’s appearance on early 2022 models was an error. If you tried to uncheck the “dimmed while driving,” it would just say “vehicle controller error.” There were many other settings that were showing up in the infotainment that weren’t supposed to. Check out this thread for more.

If you don’t see that option on newer 2022s, that means it has been fixed.

Note how the guy doesn’t try to uncheck that box. If he would have tried, it wouldn’t have let him.

Thanks for the information still find it strange that KIA doesn't allow full ambient lighting when numerous manufacturers have ambient lighting while driving nice and bright oh well good to know thank you.

What a ridiculously dumb safety feature to dim the lights only when driving as opposed to in park. I too have also noticed this after several have mentioned this. As others have noted, it doesn't seem like other manufacturers do this. I don't understand why there's 10 different brightness settings when 10 might as well be 1 when it's auto dimmed.

My Audi B9 S4 ambient lighting certainty did not auto-dim upon shifting to drive and if it did it was super subtle and if that at the very least it was still bright enough to give that ambient feel and still not become a distraction, unlike that of the Telluride.

If it was that much of a safety concern to KIA, they would've added the ability to dim their OEM factory mood lighting addon. The mood lighting add on doesn't auto dim nor even has a feature to dim the lighting at that. It's either powered on or off.

Following this thread closely with anticipation that there's a software update for the future..

OK, so kind of related question. I have a 2022 SX Nightfall. It has ambient lighting, which is supposed to be adjustable through the touchscreen. That doesn't seem to be the case on mine. The screen is there, and has options to choose and create colors and adjust the brightness, but it doesn't seem to do anything. (All the other screens I've tired work properly, so it's not the touchscreen itself.)

It also has a mechanical switch on the inside left of the first cupholder in the center console. Pressing this allows me to choose the various colors and turn the lighting off, but not adjust the brightness. Also, this lighting only illuminates the footwell.

So I'm a bit confused by this setup. Is the ambient lighting from the touchscreen different from the lighting controlled by the switch? Is this switch even supposed to be there? Again, everything else I've tried so far works perfectly and as intended, so this has me stumped. Anyone know what's up?

There are two types of ambient lighting.

See the thread below.

So what you're adjusting on your screen is the Ambient lighting aka the "Interior Mood Lighting, 64 Colors" as KIA calls it, included in the SX package/trim. That's pretty much the complaints here, that the brightness scale from 1-10 is hardly noticeable especially when driving. These are the lights on the doors and dash. This is what is being auto dimmed "for safety" and currently no viable options to turn off the auto dim feature, at least that works...

The mechanical switch on the cupholder is the "Interior Light Kit, Multicolored" which is a $450 KIA OEM addon. It powers only via on or off while holding down the button. When cycling the different colors, you'd simply press the button. This light is for the cup holders and footwell. There is no ability to dim this light and not as many color options, I believe maybe only 16 colors.

Both lighting systems, though they light up the interior are controlled separately and are in itself stand along lighting systems.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. Yeah, it's extremely difficult to get these where I live, especially in SX trim, so when one came in in the spec and color we wanted, we went for it. I just picked it up, so I still haven't quite figured out all the options it has. Apparently, it has this one!

So the Interior Mood Lighting must be quite dim then, because even set to "10" I've never even noticed it. So one is way too bright and one is way too dim, and they don't sync with each other. That's... interesting.
