April 2021 Infotainment Update?

The newest available update (15.0) is primarily a map-only update if you are updating from the prior version (14.10).

You are not… so you will notice a change to the interface and your home screen.

For example, here is your current home screen (type 1) vs the new one (type 2). A lot of people have gotten pretty bent out of shape about it. I personally don’t care because I never see it since I’m always using CarPlay.

I already gave you an idea of what to expect in this post earlier in the thread.

Read more about the changes from 14.10 in this thread here.
Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought. Think I will keep my powder dry for now, and keep my old version. In the meantime, wait to see what a future update will bring. Btw, I use CarPlay as well, and navigate with my google map app. It shows where the radar traps are set on my route. Very handy since I have trouble keeping my Telly under 80!

I’m going to be the outcast of the forums, but I’ve been running the last two updates with the purple design for a while now.

I’ve adapted to it and with the weather working for me again on version 15 (without paying for UVO) and another member here helping me figure out how to get the HD radio information to display again, I’m casting a vote that version 15 is not the doom and gloom and everyone thinks it is.

The purple color is fine by me as well.

For those concerned about the disappearance of the view with three items displayed on the screen at once, it is easy to flick through the second panel on the new update to rotate between the various options. If you have music playing via CarPlay the song info is displayed anytime a song changes, so there is really no reason to have the music source on the screen at all times since you can just look at the screen when the song changes, see the info quick and move on.

It appears that someone in the IT department had to justify their employment. Change for change sake. The triple screen worked well for me so I'll hold off until I can get for information. It's not just KIA but I'm getting tired of the "upgrades" adding nothing to soft wear and usually making it harder for the end user to "use" the system. Thanks for letting me vent.

It’s such an upscale looking vehicle on the outside... Then you step in and see the premium Napa leather and alcantara headliner... then THIS! D8DBDBFD-EDC0-44E6-A79E-16D16E07DDAD.jpeg

Thanks for that video. Helpful to see the tubes. I don't mind that graphic, but agree the purple is HORRIFIC color choice! With a $450 Interior lighting package, I should get to pick what color choices I want! Also Kia should absolutely let us go back to a previous version if we don't want their updates. A few people at Kia are making serious choices for thousands of us. They can't think we all will want what a handful of people are deciding upon.

Ok, I'm going for it. I don't use the 3 panel home screen anyway. I honestly don't know why people use it, I keep the map up in 2/3 and radio in the 1/3. The map is uselessly small on the home screen, not sure what all info people are putting up there but to each their own I guess.

I'm going to want the updated maps at some point, may as well take the leap.

I too like having the map, radio, and weather on the screen at the same time. Why can't they make it something the driver chooses instead of forcing Barney on them?

Ok, installed. I had some time to set everything back up, play around with it and drive.

Aside from the purple, I definitely like the home screen better than the 3 panel. Much smoother layout and not so clunky to look at. My eye could find the information I needed and the map was more visible than I expected.

The profiles could be cool if you switch drivers often. I can't change the icon for guest for some reason. My favorite new feature comes when using usb media. If I go to list - artist, I can check any number of artists that I choose to listen to and it mixes them all in. Same for album. This slightly makes up for the inexplicable lack of iPod compatibility and voice commands to control the usb device. It's still easier to play music in my 8 year old Ford with the base stereo.

It was a little buggy but for some reason, some of that stuff started to iron itself out. Like the speed limit 64 that was displayed (fixed after restarting) and I could not get the nav to enter night mode. I toggled the settings, turned the lights on and off, (it was dark). Restarted the car, opened and closed the doors... Finally, I thought I'll deal with this later, put it in reverse, backed out of where I was parked and once I went into drive, it worked.🤷‍♂️

Now, my biggest gripe: The sky in the 3D map. Looks cool but it essentially cuts off the top quarter of an already small (short) screen. It was different, I struggled with reading it, and the change threw me off.
I also thought it was weird that when i set my favorite button to home, it took me to the second screen, not the main purple screen. If i push it twice, it takes me to Barney land. So that was different, I like it though, I use the favorite button to get to quiet mode fast, saves me a swipe.

Yes, the original color scheme goes better with the rest of the dash but I think the home screen layout is much improved and the new features are pretty decent. Going to check out AA tomorrow, I haven't used it since the first week I had it. It's not very functional to me on a day to day basis.

My take: Don't let a little purple scare you off.

And now: Speed limit 64! (40mph zone)

Folks, as some of you know, I'm having an issue whereby my navigation can't find a route to a destination. In working with Kia, they indicated that the particular version of my Nav is no longer compatible with the latest and that I need to move forward with a UI and Nav update, to version 15 (the one that's just been released on 4/12). Note that this issue doesn't affect ALL older versions, just the particular one that I have. I objected to an update, because I particularly want the 3-panel display and my understanding from this and other threads is that the latest software no provides that.

I must give Kia UVO support a lot of credit for effort. The support rep spent a lot of time working with me to understand my objections, and then with the back-end engineering/development teams to determine what can be done. One thing they just told me that was a surprise: They're saying that version 15 (released 4/12) has *brought back* the ability to have a 3-panel home screen for 10.25 inch screens. Perhaps I missed that or misunderstood what people are saying here. Here's the manual page for the latest release that they pointed to. Basic operation
Scroll down to see the "Configuration for Home Screen", and you can definitely see a 3-panel display.

Since there is no way to back out an update, before I proceed I would really appreciate it if someone who's already updated can confirm. So if you have 1) a 10.25 inch screen and 2) the latest software version ... can you please check and see if you can enable a 3-panel home screen? If yes, that solves my issue. If no, then I need to get back to Kia because their developers are saying it is now possible again.

I just did mine last night. I went through every setting I could find in setting it up the way I wanted. I saw no mention of home screen settings anywhere. The color scheme is different in the literature they sent you than the latest update that I received. I'm guessing this is a different model vehicle and old information.

I have a 2021 SXP and don't see the option for Configuration for home screen anywhere??

I think the SX-P has the larger screen not the 10.25 inch screen

10.25 is the largest screen. 8 inch is the small size on the LX and S

Thanks. On my current version (older UI), the path is:
Setup -> Display -> Home Screen -> Edit Home Widgets
That gets you to the screen where you can select what you want in the three-panel home screen.
I take it that such a path is no longer available for the April 12 (version 15) release. Since Kia has given me that manual page, I'll ask them for the corresponding path to get to it in version 15. Maybe it's only applicable in other vehicle models or something. Stay tuned, I'll report back with what they say.

That webmanual you linked is the EU version (check the URL). The US version is here.

Current home screen configuration is “type 2,” and there is no customization available.

Thanks! Since Kia gave me the link, I'll report back to them.

Nice catch Bruesjoh04. I couldn't following the directions on the link....... makes sense now why I couldn't.

The screen shot you posted above with the purple, is there a way to not have that as the first thing that pops up on start up? I want it to automatically go to the radio since that’s what I use the most. I’d like it to be a split screen. I have a 2021 SX AWD Nightfall. Just delivered to us 2 weeks ago off the assembly line so I’m assuming it’s been updated

Whatever screen you were on when you shut the car off is what will come up.

Mine always comes up with the purple screen on start up. I’m not sure why this is annoying me so but it is lol
