• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi. I was wondering if the Kia plant in GA is working 3 shifts so it's running the line 24/7 to keep up with demand? Does anyone know? The VIN lookup page only has 7 VIN's created for today as of 6:30 pm.

Yea...any way to pass on one of the 3rd shift models? Midnight to 8 am is zombie time!!!

I'm kinda surprised their not running 7 days a week to get to the 100,000 increase they reported. I wish we knew how they determined what gets built when - first in, first out? Certain model?

Yep! Lol. I want my damn car. But think of the overtime the line workers would make!! 💰💰
I would think there’s a trade off in quality, efficiency and morale if you take away the weekend from your workforce while you try to hire more people. Besides there are supply chain considerations and equipment/IT maintenance downtime to factor in. It’s probably for the best that casino construction companies who get bonuses for finishing early also don’t moonlight as car manufacturers.

I'll take a 10am build on a Tuesday please.... By then the Monday blues are over and people are settled in. Not too early in the day yet they probably aren't hangry yet for lunch, so right on top of things.

:)

Car manufacturers tend to either think FULL CAPACITY is 16 hours per day, or five days a week. Its kind of unique to that business. I managed chemical plants. Full capacity was 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a two week turn around (shutdown) once every two years. How did equipment run without breakdown for two years straight? Often on critical pieces there were redundant systems, side by side. So one could be repaired while the other beside it was running.

Personally I am surprised they are running 3 shifts. Many car companies use the 3rd shift to do maintenance.

In the chemical industry, maintaining morale was always a challenge. Running rotating shifts where you only get one weekend a month off? We compensated for work hours with great pay and benefits. But given a choice, people would take less pay to work Monday through Friday. Tried fixed shifts for a while. It was a disaster, as you had the preferred shift, and the less desirable shift. People of the preferred shift loved it. Those on the less desirable shift wanted their turn. It ended up pitting employees against each other.

Many factories doing 24/7 have shifted to rotating 12 hour shifts similar to what most hospitals do.

I doubt the Georgia plant is unionized but I bet that wouldn’t fly with the UAW.
