• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Just picked up my ride yesterday and haven't figured out all the technical features but I feel like the car is breaking for me as I approach other vehicles at red lights. I'm not a fan of this and would like to turn the feature off if it is in fact a feature. Can anyone confirm and tell me how if so?

I don't feel that on mine (S trim) --Unless I approach to fast

It sounds like you are experiencing the engine braking and not the emergency braking. Emergency braking would include an audible warning as well as the instrument cluster notifying you of an potential collision. The 8 speed transmission does quite a bit of engine braking at low speeds in what I would guess is 1st and 2nd gear. You are likely feeling that.

I don't suppose that can be disabled

Nope. Mechanical function of the car. My dual clutch in my Audi was a serious engine braker so I hardly notice this but have seen others comment. I think you learn to drive with it. Or at least I did. A different feel for sure.

I know there is a distance breaking function but I think that is with the cruise control engaged. Yes, I guess I will have to adjust

I have an S model....and I can promise that the cruise control will bring you to a complete (and sometimes abrupt) stop using brakes with the CC enabled. I have tried it in city traffic and it is nothing short of amazing. It paces the car ahead of it and will decelerate if the car ahead slows down and apply brakes if need to come to a complete stop. I was actually surprised it was as aggressive as it turned out to be.

Are you using cruise control like you did in a previous car, and it slows down before you have a chance to cancel it yourself? If so, since this has adaptive cruise control, it will slow down when it detects a vehicle in front of you when it is stopped.

If you are not using cruise control when it happens, then it could be the engine down shifting as your speed decreases. If you feel a shift and the revs change a bit, then that might be happening. I think cars do this to keep you in a power band. That way if you press the accelerator, you are already in a lower gear to give you more power. I don't think it is engine braking per se, but it might wind up having that affect. It shouldn't be terribly noticeable though.

If you describe a bit better what is happening I might be able to help.

Yes, this actually works well. As I do this though, I’ve wondered if the brake lights come on alerting the driver behind me that I’m slowing/stopping. Anyone know?

I know they do on the Stinger so I would think it has to legally. The brake lights also stay on if you use the auto hold when you take your foot off the brake pedal.

Good Question...never even thought about that.... IT is an amazing system though.

Only 2 days after purchasing my vehicle the FCA (Forward Collision Avoidance) system saved me!
While driving down a 40 mph street the idiot in front of me decided to slam on their brakes for a couple of guys working on a sidewalk! Unfortunately, I wasn't really paying much attention since I thought all was good (I wasn't traveling at a high rate and I wasn't tailgating anyone), however the Telluride emitted 3 loud beeps and come to an abrupt stop about 2 feet behind the car...all before I had a chance to put my foot on the brake!
I love this car and I wouldn't change a thing (but I did turn off the Lane Keeping Assist..that system is way too aggressive) !

Wow, that is awesome. I too really love this car and also turned off the LKA. Interesting find, I turned off via the settings from steering wheel and though t that was the only way, but there is a button on the lower left if you want to turn back on easily.

LKA is more trouble than help- actually fights back- I like the adaptive cruise and lane function that goes along with it- and the stop and go traffic functionality is 1000x better than I thought it would be.

I think I have an idea to help me figure out the brake lights coming on.
My Telluride has the 4pin wiring with the tow package. By taking a spare trailer wiring kit I can wire some LED lights to the trailer wire harness. Then plug it in and run it in the cab via the tailgate. Since it’s only for testing, one done, unplug the wiring
I’ll do this tomorrow and give it a test.

do you not have a friend that could follow you on the highway with your cruise on and have him or her on phone and ask if the lights came on when you tell them you are braking in cruise control. in Fact the wife and i are going to go do this right now. will get back to you

no need to hook up your light. Wife and I went out and yes the brake lights do come on if the brakes are applied during cruise control. First your car will coast to slow down and if it has to slow enough for brakes to be applied your brake lights will come. And I love the lane assist when in cruise mode on highways. Also love the HDA on interstates. In fact have not found anything I don't love about this ride.

And thank you and your wife for the road study. I love everything about the SCC. I find myself in cruise control now at the most bizarre times just because I love it so.

Thanks!!
I did wire some lights to a trailer wiring harness and had it placed on the passenger seat. The lights came on perfectly as you also suggest.
