• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Good morning. I'm picking up my new Telluride SX Prestige AWD today!! I had ordered FWD and non-prestige with gray interior, but this one was ordered, came in and the original owner backed out. My husband really wanted the AWD, anyway, we have a ranch in Oklahoma and if it's muddy, snowy, etc… I am worried about the gas mileage though. If I keep the AWD off (until the few times I actually need it), shouldn't it get the same gas mileage as FWD?

I assume you mean SX Prestige? The gas mileage differences are really not all that significant. The AWD system is active all the time - but mostly operates as FWD. You can run in ECO mode to get as close to FWD as possible. The "Lock" feature is to lock the center differential for close to true 4wd performance - but you only need that in special situations off road. We generally drive in comfort mode, and in our flat area, we can see that it operates mostly FWD, but applies some power to rear wheels when accelerating among other times. Very nice feel. I wouldn't be too concerned.

You cant keep the AWD off. My AWD SX averages about 24.5 MPG. I'm happy with that. You may gain 2 MPG with FWD

Thanks so much! That helps. Yes, I meant SX Prestige. :)

That's definitely better than my Toyota Highlander. Thanks for the reply!

Our SXP still averages over 25 mpg after nearly 7,000 miles and we use 100% SMART mode. 60% highway 40% surface streets

We're averaging so far around 23 with 60/40 city driving.

I like smart mode as well. Shifts are better than in eco or comfort. Motor and trans feels great in sport ,but rpms stay a bit too high for normal driving. It is fun merging onto the highway in sport:cool:

Just picked ours up yesterday and got 27 mpg on highway on initial 400 mile drive. SX and. Pretty impressive. Same as my 2017 awd ridgeline
