• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Bad Shock on a 2020 SX with factory towing package

So far so good on my end at 54687 no issues 🤞
Clunking noises. Many people reported this issue with the self leveling struts.

Unless Kia fixed the design, I’d definitely avoid that. Unfortunately I haven’t seen any formal communication from Kia for this matter.

Today my vehicle is in service for the second strut replacement. If the problem will reoccur, I plan to submit a complaint via NHTSA and get lawyers involved.
I believe there was some kind of recall for this issue on the Palisade. There's a pretty good chance Kia felt like they could make the same fix at the production line for the Telluride without doing a full recall, if the number of complaints were low enough. Gotta love those Actuaries...

I can’t find such a recall for the palisade…

So I just looked it up. It wasn't a recall that I was remembering, but they did put out a Technical Service Bulletin. I don't believe Kia has done this.

Thanks! This service bulletin is for other components that may cause vibrations.

Thanks! This service bulletin is for other components (drive shaft for example) that may cause vibrations. Not the struts thingy.

Most people who have had the struts replaced even multiple times, have continued to have vibration problems because the actual problem was the drive shaft.

Interesting. We don’t have vibration problems, it rides super smooth. It’s just that annoying clunking noises from the rear suspension.

Anybody had their shocks come in recently? Three weeks since mine were ordered and I haven't heard a peep out of the dealer.

My shocks came in two weeks ago and were installed last week. So far, so good. It was 6 weeks from dealer order to installation. I called Kia Corporate in mid Nov after 1 month, and they called the dealership and assigned a case number - told me shocks would arrive in US on Dec 1 and should be at dealership a few days thereafter. That is what happened.

Mine is being installed today. Was ordered last Thursday, took 4 days to arrive. I was very surprised it didn’t take months.

Make sure they replace both shocks at the same time - they should be installed as a set. It sounded like you said before that they replaced 1 at a time... and then you're still having issues.

My dealer said new ones only have a 12k mile warranty. Junk.

Yes, the left one was replaced few thousand miles ago, today they’re replacing the right one. These don’t come as a set so unfortunately they wouldn’t replace both unless both demonstrate a problem.

The car has plenty of bumper to bumper warranty left in it, so if it’ll happen again it’ll still be covered even if it’s been more than 12 months after the replacement. In any case, if a newly replaced shock would fail, indicating they haven’t really fixed anything, I’ll head down the lawyers route as it’s unacceptable to continue replacing struts once in every few months…

Yuck, 12k warranty. I was told even though they figured both would need replacement, Kia would make them do one at a time. I think I'll be opening a case with Corporate and try to get both done at once.

Yes, they should replace the pair. My dealership did that.

We've had two Tellurides both with the tow package/self leveling and neither had had any issues. It's possible the issue has been worked out for the newer production as I haven't seen many comments regarding this from '21 and '22 owners. Even for those that were affected I don't think this was an extremely widespread issue.
I have a 22, and I'm having the same issue. I take my car in 2 weeks. Plus I'm having brake issues with 17k on it. I had a 20 with no issues.

Thumping noise. My selling dealers service manager said he never heard of a shock problem, bullsxxx. I took it to a different dealer and two different techs rode with me while I pulled my trailer of about 2500 lbs. the second tech agreed that the shocks were bad. It took over ten weeks for the parts but The shocks were replaced and the thumping is gone and it rides better. Haven’t pulled a trailer yet but the service manager at The dealer I took it too said he hasn’t had to replace a second set on anything yet.

If your having an issue file a complaint with KIA, they actually followed up very well.

My selling dealer will get zero business or referrals from me.

Well, got one shock replaced last Tuesday. Driving it tonight and heard a familiar clunking sound. Who could have seen that coming?...🤦

Let's see how long it takes to get the next shock in.

This is why I love forums. You get to see that "you're not crazy"...LOL. As for my experience, first I had to see if there was something I was doing wrong. I can tell you, I ended that thought quickly. Then I started asking my passengers, "do you hear that"? Of course every time I turned the radio down and shooshed everyone and said listen, the noise(thump) was non existent. I have a '20 SXP and just hit 14K~ miles but I have been hearing the thump/knock for close to 6 months now. I've kept all my current maintenance appointments but I've been slow to mention it to the dealer since I expect a back and forth situation that I didn't have the time and energy for. Especially with Covid and making appointments. That has all changed now. I see that this "issue" is REAL and I want my ride fixed. :)

I do have some questions for all. Based on all the posts, does it seem to happen to the driver side shock first? Is this mainly happening to 2020 models? Has anyone done any mods to their rides as far as wheels, exhaust, or pedal response? I'm not trying to place any blame, I'm just trying to gather all of my possible responses in case the Kia dealership I go to tries to give me the song and dance.

Mine is a 21, passenger side went first. They didn't give me any grief as they had done a few as of late. The shocks are just failing.
