So I picked up my Gravity Gray Nightsky at Straightline Kia in Calgary a week ago, about 2+ months from date of ordering. Got a bit of an unexpected sales pitch at time of pickup for extended warranty at about $4k, and appearance windshield interior etc warranty for another $4k. I declined both and indicated that I was not interested in additional warrantees no matter what the price, the base warranty is already very extensive.
Vehicle was in great shape with no apparent issues. Block heater plug installation on bumper was correct, and wipers have been fine so far. I then went elsewhere to get PPC on the vehicle front, door sills, etc, and 35% tint film on the front windows, for about $1k all in. Next stop at tire shop to get winter rims (18" RTX Najins) and winter tires installed (Blizzaks). I like the look of the rims, satin black and go nicely with gravity gray / nightsky look (see photo below).
Enroute to the tire shop I got my first SOB stone chip in the windshield with less than 35 km on the vehicle, courtesy of the MF'ing Deerfoot Trail. Fortunately the chip is very small and low down on the passenger side, but needs to get sealed up asap. I've heard a new Telluride windshield can run as much as $1.5-2.0k.
I checked out the Nav system and found that the vehicle (manufactured in Sept 2020) still had software/firmware/map version 13.5 (i.e. map version 12.47.xx, from late 2019 I believe), so close to a year old, and a number of changes to every aspect since then. With a bit of research on this site I was able to ultimately update to version 14.5 via the update.kia.com download site , and I understand that a further update to 14.10 will be out in the next couple of weeks. I tried to document the relevant steps in another forum topic:
Got great cell service too, maybe because my UVO expired and I didn't renew with the top tier package. It's really no big deal as when I'm in the car, there are windows and the outside temp is displayed on the dash for me to make my own conclusions what the weather is like...lol That’s exactly...

Got UVO working as well, and I understand we get three free years before charges apply. Not sure that the Canadian version is of much use, time will tell.
So far I'm very happy with the vehicle and features, and everything seems to be working correctly. The heads up display is surprisingly useful.
A few minor misses I've come across so far:
- The console box with the USB plugs and the wireless charging plate is too small to accommodate my iPhone 10 in its Otterbox protective cover to lie flat on the charging plate, too bad they couldn't have made this compartment 1/2 inch larger.
- The NAV system update 14.5 is pretty intermittent and inconsistent with speed limit information, school/playground zone restrictions, etc either missing or wrong. Maybe this will improve in the next update.
- The maintenance monitoring/reporting system seems very minimal when compared with our 7 year old Acura RDX.
- The owner orientation when I picked up the vehicle was pretty basic around the various buttons and controls, just enough so that you could safely drive the vehicle home. Nothing on the maintenance requirements, under the hood, basic warranty, UVO, updating NAV system, what web site links to go to for future reference, etc. When you receive the vehicle you are already swamped with info and so can't process more; but it would have been nice to have received a 1-2 page summary from the dealer of that key information and relevant web links for future reference, to get you started. Instead you are on your own to gather that info bit by bit from forums like this. In general the dealers seem unaware and are of little help.
Once I got the vehicle home I also carefully removed the dealer advertising label prominently pasted on the rear window, and will change out the cheap plastic dealer logo plate cover for a generic silicone black version. I was also going to get a clear plastic cover over the license plate. The relevant laws seem vague in some provinces and open to interpretation, but I am seeing that the police are increasingly unhappy with these clear covers, and reports of $150 tickets being issued. I don't expect any issues with my front window tinting at 35%, but am not going to escalate further - no clear license cover for me. YMMV!
