• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... CarPlay Delay

I am noticing a very bad delay in CarPlay. For example when I use Waze the map on the Telly's screen starts to lag behind the audio prompts and the map on the phone. The touchscreen is also really slow to respond, often times finding I touch the screen and it takes a solid 3-5 seconds before it reacts. This only seems to happen when in CarPlay and I am trying to determine if this is a phone issue (I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max with the latest iOS update), cable or if this is something people are experiencing in their cars as well?

I’m shocked no one else is having this problem.... anyone??

If this was me, I would try the Google maps and apple map to see if it's all three apps or just Waze. I also suggest restarting the phone if you have not tried that. Since all of those actions require processing on the phone, I would lean towards troubleshooting the phone before looking for something wrong on the car side.

I have restarted the phone and I have noticed this in Waze, but also on the general CarPlay screens. Like I will tap on the playlist I want and will think it didn’t sense my tap so will tap again, then it reacts to the first tap and my second is selecting something else by accident.

This has happened to me a couple times as well. The screen just lags a handful of seconds and then all of the gestures will rapid fire.

Is it possible it is a phone issue? My wife's phone was always so bad in her car. We always thought it was the car and complained about it. Then she got a new phone and it was all fixed. Realized it was on the phone side. Generally, the car is just a display/touchscreen for caplay/Android auto. It isn't doing anything that requires much processing power.

Genuine Apple cable or aftermarket?

Probably not the cause, but might do a cable swap to genuine if using a “cheap” cable.

I thought about both of those too, but the phone is a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max and I have tried a few different cables. I guess I am going to have to set up a Genius appointment and see if they can fix it.

Did you also try to reboot the car stereo? There’s a reset button near the volume knob. Use a pen to depress which the car on. I have an iPhone 10 Xr and CP is fine for me.

I have the same problem with what DanPorges has experienced. I 'm also using Iphone 11 Pro Max. The thing is Waze doesn't make any delay with my Mercedes so I couldn't blame my Iphone's Apple Carplay. I didn't experience this issue before I got maintenance service with headlight adjustment so I'm wondering they upgraded software but it made this kind of issue.
DanPorges, did you resolve this issue?

I’ve had my EX model for 15 months and never had this issue. I use Waze for my longer trips. Probably used it over 40 hours and never had this happen. I’m on the original v12 maps/os of the Kia entertainment uvo system.

I have this problem with an iPhone X. Happens in the Telluride but not other cars. I don't get this problem during shorter trips around town. During long road trips, the lag is horrible.

I have this problem with a faulty cable. Use a genuine cable or a really good one and everything will be fine.

I would delete the phones pairing for Bluetooth and CarPlay and re sync. Cable maybe the issue but I think this will help. Turning off the phone is not a reset so if that is what you called resetting the phone then google rebooting the new iPhones, it is a different process. Always good to do after software updates to re sync everything

Registered just to post about this. I can't remember if we've had issues with this from day one ('20 SX Prestige) but we've been having issues for a long time.

Wife and I both have iPhone X. Both phones exhibit the touch screen latency. Sometimes it works absolutely fine, sometimes it is downright terrible. Yesterday I drove 4 hours round trip and for the majority of it, I was experiencing 20 second (yes, literally 20 second) delay on the touch screen with CarPlay.

It seems that unplugging the phone for a few seconds and plugging it back in USUALLY resolves it temporarily. Sometimes it comes back in minutes. It does seem that opening my phone and potentially interacting with certain apps can trigger this, but I have not narrowed it down to which ones. I've just noticed that usually if I plug in the phone and never touch it again, it usually works ok. If I'm parked and open my phone and interact with some apps, the delay usually starts.

I do not believe it is a cable issue. I have a '21 Stinger as well, and our phones using the same cable work just fine with the Stinger. I have NEVER experienced the delay with my Stinger.

We plan on upgrading our phones soon and I'm curious if that will resolve it or not. There's obviously some kind of issue with CarPlay, but not sure if it is on the Kia side or the iPhone side. My wife has taken it to the dealer a couple of times and asked them to investigate and they always say they never experience the delay. Even if they did, it seems like this is an engineering level issue and I doubt they can fix it.

I am still having this issue. I have swapped cables, reset stereo, reset phone and still have the issue. Doesnt happen in my wife's Sorento or any rental cars I have used CarPlay in. As Lazarus said, its 20 seconds plus at times. There are times when the Waze alerts for Police or Traffic are heard audibly and then I dont see them on the screen for a long while. It has caused me to miss turns and such on GPS as well.
I find if I go back to the radio or even to the UVO map and then click back into CarPlay it catches back up and then starts to lag almost immediately again and progressively get worse.
I am also finding the delay applies across CarPlay, not just on Waze. When i have just Apple Music open and change songs with the steering wheel controls, the phone changes immediately and I hear the change right away, but the screen is delayed in showing the change. Also, if i use the touch screen to try to make the change it can be that same long delay between touching the screen and it actually responding.

Have you both tried updating your head unit yet?

Just remember to check out the changelog on the Kia update site, or read through these threads to know what updating entails. (purple theme, no 3 widget home screen)

Unfortunately Im dealing with the exact same latency issue with the touch screen while using apple car play - 11 pro max/20 SX. Havent been to the dealership in almost a year and we’re hoping that an infotainment software update might fix this.
