Hello everyone. We're having a huge swing in thefts on my neighborhood with catalytic converter's. Unfortunately I have to park my car outside of the garage. My question. Does anyone have any experience or know of anyone or any product that can be installed to protect specifically the Kia telluride? I see a lot for Toyotas and Prius. And I understand they are more common for thieves. But that doesn't underscore the fact that they will eventually target my vehicle that's raised up higher than your typical car.

How exactly does etching a number on a catalytic converter prevent its theft? It seems to me that is how you catch the thief after the item is already stolen, providing they are too dumb to just grind the number off.

To prevent the theft make the converter much more difficult and time consuming to remove, the thief will reject the difficult one and find an easier target; maybe with an etched number on it that is easier to steal and grind the number off.

Yes, I doubt the thief is going notice the vin etch under the car as he's using his Sawzall in the dark. I don’t know if there is any clear answer other than added protection and careful parking.

Thieves steal a CC for the precious metals inside so they destroy it in the process. A VIN etch really won't do anything. I had mine sawzalled out on my Explorer. But don't give the dealers any ideas... pretty soon you might see "Catalytic Converter VIN Etch $695.00" on the sticker.
