Center console storage latch hard to open?

I’ve found that my center console storage latch isnt working very well. I can pull the latch handle as far as I can and the door won’t lift up and open, if I fiddle with it while still fully pulled it will eventually pop open. While open and pulling the latch handle it looks like it’s functioning just fine with alot of latch travel.

Anybody else run into this and found a solution to open it easier?

I've figured out pressing down on the storage top when pressing the latch seems to do the trick, I still think there's a design flaw though

mine works ok, but i hate the design of that! with the two drink holders in the back i cant access it with my right hand, i have to reach across and use my left. very awkward
