Here is my rough understanding of the process.
1. You place an order for your Trim & Options with your chosen Dealer
2. Your order gets on dealer queue list. You can ask your dealer how many are in front of you.
3. Around every mid-month, Kia will set allocation number per dealer. (5 SX, 3 EX, 4 S, 6 LX)
4. Dealer will enter in orders from the queue list to KFOS(Kia ordering system).
5. Kia will "pick up" the order and fulfill them.
So if dealer X is getting 3 SX's per month and there are 15 SX orders in front of you, you will likely get your order picked up in the 6th month.

Yep, you’re correct! We were told by dealer owner that he’s allowed 20 a month. We happened to be first on their list. We ordered 10/10 and their allocation was 10/17. Vin hasn’t showed in failcat yet but he told us our eta is 1/21.

Sorry, I just seen the question on the order being picked up by Kia! But, I asked a question about when you get your VIN and this is what I was told...

After the Telluride is built.. so that is awhile off. Depends on location of dealer as well compared to plant as well. But once an ETA is given I would say anywhere from a month to a few weeks from when the ETA is assigned. Lots of variables adjust this though

The actual answer is after paint. There is usually only a day to 3 difference from paint to build complete though.

The dealer will get the ETA when the order is accepted into KFOS. Once the vehicle is out of paint, a VIN is assigned. Failcat will *most likely* pick up the VIN the next time it runs which is in the mornings. Failcat is a labor of love for the people who host it. Your VIN may not show there at all. In the US you can always find your window sticker by adding your VIN to the end of this URL

If your dealer isn't communicative, you might find a vehicle matching your order on Failcat before it is communicated to you. You can check it with your dealer or Stephen who provides this great service for the community. For me, I found mine on Failcat and sent an email to my dealer who confirmed it was my unit. Stephen helped me along the way with ETA updates as well. Since my unit was filled out of someone else's canceled order, my name was never updated to it.

From my understanding, you get your ETA when your order is accepted by Kia.

Because when the order is accepted into Kia’s ordering system (KFOS), it automatically gives you a tentative ETA, VIN is not generated until the car is built and painted per what I was told earlier...

The dealer should tell you. I stay in contact with my dealer. I was told Kia’s ordering system opens up the middle of every month and depending on the dealership allocation and orders ahead of yours will determine if/when your order will be accepted! I know there is one person ahead of me, so if my dealership is allocated only 1 SX and the person ahead of me ordered an SX, their order will go through and I would have to wait until next month.
