• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Good morning,

Shiloh here. Just recently joined the forum to read all the great info and helpful hints - really appreciate everything I learned. I ordered my ‘21 Wolf Grey EX w/NF package in December, and took delivery this month.
First of all have to say this is my first Kia after driving Acura and Honda vehicles most of my life, and so far I’m very impressed.
I do have a question, however, that I’m having a difficult time finding a clear answer on - hoping someone on here can help. There’s probably a more appropriate place to post this, but I thought what the heck, might as well put it in my first post and get it over with. Here it is: My cruise control seems to be permanently set to the mode that that keeps my speed adjusting to a pre-defined distance behind the car ahead of me. Only in a wide open lane does it keeps me on pace at my set speed. How do I “turn off” that feature, and will I have to do that every time I restart the vehicle? Thanks!

Page 5-74 of your manual.

Also, don’t forget that while in smart cruise mode, you do have four different following distance settings. Give them a try!

Thank you very much! Will try this very shortly. Just wish they would have chosen to default to regular Cruise Control instead of SCC, as most of my driving is NOT in city traffic.

Feel free to use the vehicle how you choose, but smart cruise with the lane following assist (which will effectively steer for you) is one way the car really shines, especially in highway/freeway situations. You are able to relax and arrive much more rested than you would have otherwise.

I just implore you to try out all of the great functions of your new vehicle before you turn it back into a 1990s version of itself and call it good. 😊

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your brand new Telluride! I'm glad you found us. :) Moving this out of the lounge as you have a specific question/issue...

I really like that feature, but, wife doesn't. You can't or don't have the option with the cruise button? Sorry, I don't remember and am on vacation out of state and don't have access to my car to check. Hopefully, someone will be along to help you out.

Radar smart cruise control: no need to disable and resume cruise control every time you approach a car in front (ie. in traffic or when other drivers are on the road)

Manual operated cruise control: approaching a car on the road, step on your break. after changing lanes, resume again. approach another car, repeat steps again. Driving in traffic, essentially useless cruise control. Driving in stop and go traffic, essentially useless cruise control. Not using lane follow assist, gotta keep your hands on the wheel at all times as opposed to on straightaways or minor bends, you can relax your steering wheel grip and road trip comfortably.

The point is to make more use of an otherwise useless car feature for most driving situations.

I use it all the time; love it

I'm sure you have a valid reason, but why would you want to disable the SCC feature? Just curious...

Once you set the SCC distance (far; medium; close; switch on the steering wheel) it stays there for subsequent usage. I leave mine at the closest following setting.

Love the HDA!!! Drove most of my trip over the weekend with it. System is very smart and amazing... tesla has nothing on this!!!

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. As I mentioned, this is my first non-Acura in a while, and the Acuras offered SEPARATE controls for lane assist and “follow mode” (for lack of a better term). I liked the lane assist (self driving, basically) but never used the follow mode. I’ll get used to it over time though. Thanks again.

I'm not overly thrilled by SCC , except maybe on long leisurely drives. Even with the settings set to allow closest distadistance to the vehicle in front, it starts slowing way too early if your in relatively heavy traffic.

If I drove my Telluride on a daily commute I would very likely disable it. I'd probably also disable lane keeping assist too... I see the value in some situations, but not for me in many other situations.
