• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... What are the likely causes of a dead battery in my new telluride with 4500 miles on it? I’m pretty sure the lights automatically turn off after certain amount of time. I know my alternator is working.

Abnormal Battery drain if your battery isn't bad. Charge it and then take it to most auto parts store that will run a load test. If that passes, need to have the dealer run some tests.

Thanks. Did just that and alternator tested bad Must be intermittent because the battery is now 100%. Now trying to find a dealer that can take me in next day or so because need to get back to Buffalo for cancer treatment Tuesday.

Didn't think the alternator at 4,500k! Geez Kia!

I spoke to a Kia dealer general manager in Louisville Kentucky and she said she has a 2023 telluride and it also has a bad alternator. Apparently this is not an isolated incident.

Has anyone with a bad alternator, NOT have the battery light come on? I've had my alternator checked a few times, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. Nevertheless, my brand new battery does get drained. I just find it odd and annoying that there is no volt meter anywhere on the display and my battery light has never come on.

So I went to a more trusted guy in Louisville yesterday and left the car with him. He tested the battery and alternator. Both were perfect. Car has been normal after that. Hope so because tomorrow it’s 500 miles back to Buffalo. Can’t fathom what drained the battery in the first place. Appointment with possible dealer set for three weeks from now.

I've had this occur before and unless something was left on to drain it thats obvious( car left in start up setting, sitting using accessorieswith engine not running), it's going to happen again. New Batteries just don't die without a cause.

Had my alternator replaced at around 25000 km (15500 miles). I was driving and all of a sudden all warning lights on the dashboard came on and the lane keep assist wouldn’t let me turn the sterring wheel even though it was off. Had to fight with the LKA in order to pull the car into a plaza. I turned off the car hoping it would fix the problem but would start again because battery was drained. The LKA was active even when the vehicle wasn't running (but ignition in the ON position). KIA’s roadside assistance sent a tow truck to get the car to the nearest dealer. The tow truck driver also had to fight with the LKA to get the steering wheel straight to get the telly on the truck bed. It could have been a scary situation if it happened on the freeway.

I got the car back a couple of days later. It's been 25,000 km since the incident and it has never happened again.

I am beginning to suspect the Kia Access app is the issue. I can’t figure out how it’s causing it but since the car has a modem and is capable of remote, start, etc. it’s possible that I fat fingered the Kia app or that the software is screwed up and running current while the car is parked in the driveway .

I think you might be on to something. My problems started within a week of getting the app. I got the "ultimate" package, and it has never once alerted me that the battery is or was drained. I think it's totally possible that it's constantly running a diagnostic or something, causing the parasitic drain. I'm going to cancel it and see what happens. I wasn't impressed with it at all, especially, for $199. The ultimate package is really ultimate crap.

Successful 500 mile ride from Louisville to Buffalo today. No problems with battery or alternator. I’m convinced the app was the culprit the train my battery, but I can’t prove it and don’t know what feature on the app could be capable of doing that.
