• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Does anyone know how production is going? I'm in the market for an SX AWD in NYC area. All I'm seeing are SX w/ Prestige in Moss green. Do we know if production is in full swing or are they slowing rolling these things out. My current lease isnt up until Sept but would like to get into a Telluride in the summer.

There is another thread addressing this issue as well. Sounds as though there are supply issues with the captains chairs, which are the only configuration for the SX AWD model and therefore KIA is only building FWD at present time. I will see if I can find the thread and post a link to it.

Initial plant production will be 50000 units/yr from what I'm reading. Capacity for much more than that if demand warrants. Patience will pay off on selection and pricing.

So why are some people ordering cars and not getting them and they produce cars in between. Shouldn’t they produce something they already have order for and make those people happy.

I’m clueless of how car factory works. It’s probably not easy to maneuver different trims/colors..

I was told by the dealer that that factory is not taking custom orders. Best you can do is reserve one that the dealer has already ordered that meets your requirements.

Another lying or ill-informed dealer.
Yes we just went there to test drive early-on. The place was a total Sh$t Show. They didn't know anything about the Telluride. The sales manager actually told our salesperson (right in front of us) to google what the option levels are and what they come with. Over the following weeks they could never give us any idea of what Tellurides they had on order or when they were coming in. We finally bought at another place on the other side of town (50 Miles from our house).

As a fellow AZ resident Ill bet I can guess the dealer....but better not LOL. I have to say my contacts locally have reinforced my negative perception of KIA. Really sketchy. I had an "Internet Sales Manager" tell me he couldn't discuss pricing/availability unless I came in.....I guess those pesky internet sales discussions are to much for him.

This is 100% true, 50k units for the first year of production was budgeted. Kia had no idea what the demand would be and they have a TON of extra Sorentos and Optimas just sitting waiting to be sold. The plant has production capacity for more than 100k per year which they will get going now that they see the demand.

It will take time though. Supply chains for cars are long and complicated. Plus Hyundai is already cranking up production of the engine and transmission because it’s the exact same as the Palisade. Those are made in Korea.

There is no doubt that the Kia buying experience is a process made painful by the dealers and their shenanigans. I love how they use the 5yr 60K mile warranty as a sales tool then the finance guy proceeds to tell you that its full of holes and you need to buy an extended coverage warranty.

I had this exact same experience buying mine. 🤣

The finance manager at my Kia dealership told me to skip the warranty and get the maintenance done myself. He checked "no" on gap insurance himself and said to buy it cheap with insurance if I wanted it. Also told me not to worry about the miles and sell the car after the end of the lease and that we never had this conversation.

Why would they cap it at 40,000? That seems ridiculous given they have already sold over 5,000. At this rate they will be all gone by summer, and then what?!

Whoever the source was for this article had bad information. As of 5 weeks ago, production was ramped up the 65,000 this year. Though I still think it will be insufficient for demand.

Looks like kia dealers have bad info too. Had one tell me last week that the kia manager for the area told them that it was 40,000 and from now on only captain chair models were being produced. See attached. Who knows...

Seems likely I the one behind the times, thank you

I just find it hard to believe with the demand so high they would cap production. Seems very odd to me. At this rate they will be gone in just a few months.

It must be a supply chain problem for parts. In Korea they have all they need. Here perhaps, not so much.
