Dealer run around?

Okay, so I can't find the tools that you speak of, If you can...please post the link...

Thanks for your time...
TNichole

Or search "production stats" to find a Google sheet with same info.

You can find recently built vehicles matching your specs that will be en route to dealers. Then call the dealers referencing the VIN.

I don't think you are over reacting at all! I have had a very similar ordering experience her in Massachusetts. We ordered on September 7th, the everlasting silver S. We were told 8-12 weeks. In order to not repeat your experience in this post, I will just say this...We Had basically the same run around. However, Dec.12th I decided to call KIA Corporate and see what I could find out. I had a feeling that it had not even been ordered. To my dismay, my vehicle had not even been ordered...Kia corporate filed a case number and promised to get back to me in a week. They did call me back to say that my order had been placed by the dealer. The date on the order was December 17th. So I kindly called the dealer and requested a refund of my deposit. I had to call and email for 2 weeks to get the refund processed. Needless to say, I am VERY disappointed and frankly shocked by this whole situation! I have NEVER seen a mess like this with any car dealer in my 45 years.

I am still in love with this vehicle, so I am trying to be patient and wait for the 2021 to be released. My husband and a few friends have told me that KIA should be dead to me, but I am going to give them until June to show me the 2021 and see if I can purchase one without all of the run around. If I am unable to easily purchase from them in July I will move on and find another vehicle, and if this happens...I WILL NEVER, EVER do business with KIA.

P.S. I am a cash buyer with no loan or trade in problems, therefore in my mind I am the easiest customer on the planet! Why are they doing this to potential customers???? Really bad business!

Good Luck!
TNichole
TNichole, I feel your pain! We are in a similar situation. Is Dec 17th the date the order was put into Kdealer or matched to an allocation in KFOS (in response to the claim you filed with Kia corp)?

Jason - I'm sure this has been posted somewhere, but for the life of me, I can't find it... Could you help me with the process after you go in and put a deposit down on an order? That is, assuming the dealer is on the up and up, lets say I ordered an ebony black SX-P, black interior (I did). Does the dealer have to wait until they are allocated an SX-P, and then they can specify the color etc.? And, assuming there are 3 people ahead of me, all waiting for an SX-P, I'm assuming the dealer will need to be allocated 4 SX-P's before mine gets ordered. Or am I way off here? They don't actually have to be allocated the right color and options do they? Thanks in advance.

Some dealers wait till they are allocated. We place the order with KIA as soon as we have a deposit. I've come to the conclusion that being somewhere in line does not mean anything. That is why we have people waiting 7-8 months and someone who placed an order 4 months ago gets a vehicle 1st. We can't control the build schedule. It depends what the Mother Ship feels like building. They run these in batches it seems. It is all over the board. We've had people as little as 3 months ago get an SX but it was right color combo or options at that time that did it. The dealers taking deposits, not placing a order and saying they are is wrong. What if a sales guy had a sucker wanting to pay $5k over sticker but a different sales guy had you locked in at sticker. Who do you think is getting that allocated vehicle? Hence the wait continues for you. Not saying they are doing this but it's a common issue. I'd rather have a order in the system instead of playing games at the mercy of someone with a pencil and an eraser. All stores are backed up. Very long wait times. World we live in unfortunately.

If the dealership is doing the order right they are putting orders in as Jason said into Kdealer.. when they get there allocation assuming 3 people are ahead of you and all of you have order SX AWD regardless if prestige or not... then yes you will need the store to have 4 SX AWD allocations to get to your order.

you are correct tha when allocated we manually enter your order into KFOS(ordering system Kia is actively changing to) based on the order we put them into Kdealer.

once order is filled and officially assigned to us in KFOS we remove your information from Kdealer.

this is how Kia wants it done..

it’s just a matter of communicating with who places order to see if that store you are ordering from in doing this process.

Highly recommend speaking not to just the sales consultant who may not know all these details but the person who is physically typing in your order...

if he/she can not explain what I just wrote in detail...... look elsewhere (my 2 cents)

if dealer just put into Kdealer and are not putting into KFOS when they have allocation the store will not get the proper turnaround for the people waiting

Kdealer was confusing when depending just on it.. was random... waiting on build blocks.. going in different directions.. almost luck of the draw.. very frustrating to understand and explain to clients.

KFOS is straight forward let’s you know exactly how many you are getting of each trim.. super easy to understand.. based on average monthly allocation can use basic math to determine wait times..

It is no longer a guessing game.. now it’s just a matter of allocation vs amount of orders of that specific trim in FWD or AWD to determine wait time..

Real pleased since I’ve been back with Kia(Dec 1st) to learn the inside and outside of KFOS..

Best advice use the tools here to find high volume dealership. Talk to who places orders to ensure they understand KFOS.

Thanks. The sales manager told me they get allocated so many models and then they order based off of the allocation. Then he has to keep entering the order until it is assigned to him and "put in my folder" of vehicles, and then he gets an ETA.

Start at the link below and read a few of the posts that follow for additional information. Jason is right too - orders get filled randomly sometimes. And, there's another thread on KFOS that will help you - Stephen talked about that system.

Super helpful, thanks. The dealership seems really reputable from everything I've read an heard, but I realized I didn't know the ins and outs and I'm reading all these horror stories on here.

If you post the dealership name, it helps for forum members to be able to share possible experiences. For example, one of the worst offenders is Southwest Kia - a salesperson may be nice and claim to take an order at MSRP - then when it arrives, they have been known to mark it way up due to "market demand". Similar to the poster above who ordered through Parkway Family Kia in Kingwood Texas. The best defense is a good offense, right? When leaving a deposit, ask for a printout from kdealer with order ID / number, ensure the price and any add-ons is negotiated up front, ask for finance offers, rebate (although finance can be negotiated later when vehicle arrives due to changing incentives) and don't fill out a credit app at time of order.

Who would ask for a credit app 1st? 🤣

Hahaha.... never an unscrupulous Kia dealer. Certainly not before a test drive. ;)

Thanks. That's what I would have guessed. Very frustrating. To echo a lot of people on here...I wish I would have known more about this forum before I starting the process. I don't get the feeling this dealership has a good handle on this ordering process like you, Jason, and others do. I guess I'll be diving into the spreadsheet a little harder to find something. Looked into a couple already. One had a $1500 markup and the other seemed to be pretty close to MSRP but did mention they would "price match" another offer in writing. It has more options that I'm really looking for though.

@Jason Fox says they have an incoming S FWD that is not spoken for! Might be of interest if y'all can work a deal.
