If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Did you add any contract terms to your order?

I am about to place an order, but was told there is no real paperwork in the ordering phase. My question is whether anyone asked to have some form of contract terms added at the ordering phase, and if so, what terms?

It seems to me there should be language staying that all special offers (e.g
2 yrs of free oil changes) offered on order date are valid on purchase date, if interest rate is better on offer date, that prevails, etc.)

Am I overthinking this?!?

You should have something in writing with price/tax/registration/dealer fees, and deposit amount listed. If there are other agreement between you and the dealer, that should also be on there. Have a sales manager sign it. If you are buying out of state, have an email with everything itemized at the minimum. You are not overthinking this, always have your butt covered.

I couldn't even get my dealer to provide any documentation that the allocated VIN was reserved by my deposit other than the GM writing a note on the back on his business card. I ended up asking the same questions 4-5 different ways to make sure I was getting the same answers and it still left me uncomfortable. Thankfully the dealer honored what they stated.

I've heard consistently from dealers that financing offers are whatever they are at time of purchase/pickup and not at the time of order.

The most important part of this to get them to disclose and agree to the price.

Sure they can say MSRP and then down the stretch hit you with VIN etching, mandatory dealer detailing...pulse light...the list goes ON.

You have to get them to agree up front on the price - and tell them you aren't agreeing to any bogus mandatory crap (like the above) upon delivery.

I did this all via email with my sales rep and his manager. They sent me an email with the specs of what I was ordering (trim, options, color, etc), and an out-the-door price. The deposit was refundable so they stated that too. That should be simple and reasonable to ask for from any dealership. If they balk, then I'd personally just order elsewhere. Now, in truth none of this should be really considered a "contract". It's more to have something in writing if needed for any later negotiations.

I just have a receipt with the charges and the agreed upon price (MSRP). I ordered from two different dealers so we will see who comes in first and if one wants to play games, I have a fall-back plan.
