Rain sensing wipers. Rained on Monday. Driving yesterday, not a cloud in the sky and everything was dry. On my way home from the store - probably 15 miles into the trip - wipers came on. Ugghhhhhh.

I've never had this feature on any vehicle. I've read many reviews of people saying that it's an exceptional feature and many on this forum have raved about the feature. I had always wondered what the false positivity rating of these sensors would be. Whether this vehicle or another, is this common? I mean, a sensor is going to fail at some point, but when it works, does it work well?

If it’s not actually raining or potentially raining, it’s best practice to turn them off. Sharp changes in light, among other reflections and things, can confuse the sensor and cause random false positives like you saw.

In general, rain-sensing wipers are most valuable in that they modulate their speed and intermittency themselves, so you’re not constantly turning speed up and down as the heaviness of rain requires.

I’ve had wipers do that before.

I’ve also had automatic high beams decide they don’t want to come on in certain instances as well. My wife’s QX80 had issues just this weekend.

My Audi occasionally does weird stuff technologically from time to time.

I just chalk all this up to “nothing is perfect 100% of the time”

Not gonna damage your wipers if they swipe occasionally on a dry windshield.

It is something you will get used to having rain sensing wipers. If you feel it is getting triggered too frequently just turn the sensitivity to lowest setting. No, they will not sense very light mist even on highest sensitivity. Yes, even on lowest sensitivity it may still “misfire” when there isn’t any rain.

I always leave them on unless I am at a carwash. Why turn them off and then have to manually turn them back on when it rains? They are supposed to work automatically for you so you don’t need to think about in my opinion. They will not be “misfiring” more than 0.1% on all your trips combined.

That’s funny. I’m trading in my ‘18 A5 Sportback for the Telly. I love the way the car rides, but with a 14 year old and 11 year old, I just went smaller too soon.

But how about those awful cup holders?!!! What engineer came up with that design? Almost like they forgot them and added them at the last second. I’ll never overlook the placement of cup holders again

It happens, the system is not perfect.
The only plus of this sensor, when it rains and / or the speed of the car changes, the wipers will change the frequency themselves - it's cool. Otherwise, it is useless.
Over time, it will perform worse and worse, as the windshield above the sensor will scratch, which reduces performance. You will need to either change the glass or polish the glass in the sensor area.

My Jeep Cherokee's both have the rain sensing wipers and they occasionally swipe but I love them and my EX does not have them.

Dislikes-after just getting it delivered yesterday.

1. Front moonroof is very small
2. Digital cluster in the middle-fonts are a little on small side and same style Kia has been using for a few years-I'm sure this will be updated on the next go around
3. Could use a little larger area for the wireless charging-if you have the cable installed there is no room for it. Would also like a dedicated spot for the key-there is a small spot by the mode selector but the key has to be put in one way and not the larger side down
4. No reading lights for the rear passengers-there is what appears 3 LED lights in center of headliner near 2/3 row-but wondering if this is an SX exclusive since I don't see any way to turn them on-but the 2nd row seats scream for a reading lamp
5. Wish it had capless fuel system like many new Ford's and FCA products-just super convenient
6. I prefer the cup holders that have a rubber insert to hold the cup instead of the plastic prongs Kia uses

Small things for sure but like others, overall the vehicle is off the charts for a mid size 3 row crossover not coming in from Germany.

@Kyle , these are good bits of info that I didn’t even pay attention to on a test drives still waiting here but ya. Nit picky dislikes, but all valid ones.

I digress and say that If I had to way in on features, awd wasn’t considered, but I’m not sure why the heated steering wheel is only available if with awd.

More on the design, I’m still not sure why they designed the vehicle to support seat combinations the way they did. I also think the EX trim deserved another interior color, or at least in the premium add on - imo, the premium cost is rather high and not too far from getting an SX. We went that route for the bucket seats but I think they should have offered an additional color for the interior at that cost.

I'm seriously considering the SX. I'm not happy about lack of key fob remote start. I have no interest in paying for a service for the APP after two years. I'm not a big app user anyway. Turn on your phone, wait for app to load, then sift through options to select start...... is WAY too inconvenient compared to pushing the button of fob. Am I misinformed or this lack of fob in fact true?

The 2021 SX has remote start on the key fob. Edit: I just noticed that this has already been cleared up ... So, I will add these instructions: You have to push “lock” twice and then, Press & Hold the remote start button down (quite firmly) until your car starts.

I’ve had my ‘21 Telly SX for a month now and I love it. But since you asked, here are my nit picky peeves:

• Headrest tilt cannot be adjusted. Im 5’2” and wish I could tilt it back a bit, especially if my hair is up in ponytail. My passenger is very short and his head is push forward uncomfortably, unless the seat is reclined awkwardly. Sounds like taller folks really like the headrests, though.
• I can’t seem to find a comfortable setting in the driver’s seat, even with the steering wheel column pushed all the way in, I have to choose between feeling too close to the steering wheel, or stretching to reach the gas pedal. I mean, 5’2” is not THAT short, is it? Even worse, I can barely reach the brake pedal & start button, until the car starts up and returns to my settings. I guess I should turn off the easy-entry setting, but then my husband will be in the fetal position until the car starts. Most likely, I‘m missing my ex-Tahoe’s adjustable foot pedals. Hopefully, I’ll get more comfortable when the muscle-memory wears off.
• I love the dropped down section in the cargo area. It’s great to not have groceries rolling all around the back of the car when driving home. But like others, I don’t love the angled, detached cover. Might just take it out of the car altogether.
• No good place to mount a cell phone. Even the custom pro-clip mounts cover some buttons on the dash, as do vent mounts I’ve tried. I can’t spare a front cup holder, as I almost always have a passenger. The 12-volt cell phone holder bumps into the shift in Park mode.
• I can’t get the Bluetooth system to stop demanding access to my cellphone every 5 minutes. No matter how many times I tell my phone to “forget this device.” (The Kia).
• I’ve only got 500 miles on it, but around-town mpg is not great. Usually 12-15 mpg city But on the highway, the mpg is fantastic 28-30!

That seems like a long list, but if you asked what I love about this car, I’d be here all night! So, so many cool features about this car. The 360 safety camera system tops the list. Another one, is that almost everything that has an onscreen setting, also has an old-school button option. I don’t like doing touchscreen adjustments when I’m driving. The real buttons probably contribute to lack of real estate for a cell phone mount.
All in all, one month in and I still ❤ my Telly!

As a general rule, quoting posts over a year old one is usually not a great idea, as the issue has already been addressed by other forum members or Kia itself (like in the case of remote start).

I haven't gotten my car yet but something I'm hoping for in case my order gets switched to a 2022 ... adaptive front lighting system...something my 2015 Golf has thats half the cost of the Telluride! Other than that, my only complaint is all these people made of money that are willing to pay over sticker, deleting the value appeal of this vehicle.

About standard size for non panoramic IMO. SX would have the dual sunroof option. With a larger rear one that doesn’t open.

Curious which non-luxury auto brands offer larger than 10.25” display infotainment screens. I am still seeing most mainstream automakers sell cars with 7” and 8” displays.

Agreed, if there are cables in use (12v, usb, or data) you would need to lift them up to get your phone underneath and onto the pad. May be harder with larger phone cases. If you are plugged into the data port for carplay/android auto you don’t really need it to lay flat on the pad anyways since it charges over the data port as well.

Can’t comment on this since I have an SXP.

Agreed, capless fuel is more convenient from the times I’ve used it on rental cars.

The “3 LED lights in center of headliner...” is the ultrasonic sensor for the rear occupant alert. I already told you that in another thread, but after seeing that here without being corrected, I wanted to make sure that was clear to everyone.

Regarding map lights, I have an SX, so I’m not as much help as I could be otherwise since I know there are some interior lighting differences between trims. But I’m pretty sure you still have the dome light right by the rear climate controls... if you push those, that’s your second row map light.

SX trims also have a dome/map light right above where the third row outboard person’s head would go as well.

So, you bring up a complaint of mine - why in the heck do companies give us HUGE key fobs? Seriously, why can't they give me a bottle opener....swiss army knife... a card in my wallet...a rabbits foot.....some kind of double use disguised type fob? Why do we even need fobs anymore? We should be able to program something of our choosing. It infuriates me that some of these fobs are the size they are.

Is this the small spot you speak of for your key fob? If so, that would be why it’s not fitting, it’s not designed for your key, that’s a place for your finger to fit to engage the parking brake. I place my keys in the little cubby in between the cup holders and wireless charging area (that’s if I even take my keys out of my pocket to begin with). Not sure if that’s what that spot is for, but they fit just fine when I use it that way.

I like what Apple is doing and allowing your phone to be the key. I want a world with no fob, already got rid of house keys when I went to keypad electronic door locks. Would be nice to not have to carry anything other than my phone and wallet. The less crap to lose, the better.
