• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Can I drive this car on the beach? I think it has a AWD with a locking differential. Is can it shift into 4WD low or 4WD high?
I had a 2014 Touareg that was fine in the sand.

It does have a locking differential which puts it in a 50/50 mode .. just like 4wd low up to 25 mph then it will ayutomatically take you out of lock and put you back into an all time AWD mode until back below 25 mph.

I remember in my friend's old Ford Bronco, you actually had to get out of the vehicle to make the switch...

Most important thing when driving on the beach will be tire type and pressure.

I'm assuming it comes with AS tires. If you air them out to 15-20 psi you should be fine. Just make sure there are accommodations nearby to air back up before hitting the road home.

If you spend a lot of time on the beach in your car I'd switch to a quiet AT tire. BFG TA K02 served me well on the North Carolina Outer Banks in my 4runner.

Like Kamauxx said, its all about tires and airing down. I'm sure the lock 50/50 split up to 25 mph is more than capable. Why would you need to be doing over 25 on beach anyway. I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with goodyear wrangler AT. I just air down a little and when i'm done fill them back up. You can even get an air compressor that plugs into the car if needed.

Sorry, no offense meant, but this seems crazy. Two weeks ago I took my Stinger GT2 AWD up and down the beach on Padre. I can’t imagine the Telluride being incapable when the Stinger is.
I remember padre island as pretty hard packed sand. I’m moving to the outer banks of NC and will have some very soft, deep rutted beach to contend with on the northern end. I always aired down to about 15 psi in the Touareg when I drove onto island beach state park beaches in New Jersey and it was fine.

It depends on the beach. Some beaches are like sand pavement. Some like baby powder. The Stinger wouldn't do well on a baby powder like beach.

And actually, where he's talking about its against the law to take a RWD vehicle onto the beach. You have to get approval and a permit from the park rangers by showing your vehicle registration so they can see the type of drive system your car has. AWD/4WD is a requirement on the Outer Banks. Without it you're just a nuisance taking up space and being pulled out by a good samaritan. (normally a Mustang driver)

I'm dying to put my Telluride on the sand!!
But I worry of how much will get absorbed in the undercarriage...
I had a 2009 Honda Pilot and though it drove well in the sand...It had so so much below ...The Telluride is lower...So I worry
Any thoughts TELLURIDE owners??

LGF - did you ever end up taking your Telluride onto the sand/beach? I am interested in leasing one but if it cannot drive in powdery sand on the NJ beaches, I don't want it. I have not been able to find anything about it driving on that type of sand.

My understanding is it's not a real locking differential. It locks the rear power transfer clutch. It will release if overworked and does not guarantee a constant 50-50 all the time, especially under stress. And it uses an e-differential instead of a locking or limited slip differential. Now I don't know what any of that means really, but if you want to go off-roading this is not your baby.

This covers it nicely:

I want to use my 2021 telluride on the beach at LBI...I noticed sx model has a sand mode....what do I need to do besides air down thanks

If the beach allows it.

AWD Lock is good below 25mph.

We drive on the beaches at SPI all the time...just don’t get in the soft sand above tide line.

Accurate, Air down to 10-15psi & roll slow. 15mph speed limit on IBSP ANYWAY. Ground clearance is bigger issue in soft sand. My 2010 Honda Pilot does just fine in normal Drive mode. Although it does drag sand a bit when quite soft.
Considering New Sorento or Telluride but would like to be off-road a bit. ??

I have a Telluride and drove it on corova beach in the outer banks for 45 min each way to the house and it did great! did push some sand in a few deeper ruts but pushed right through it. taking it again in two weeks
