• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Electronic Parking Break TSB notice from Kia

Updated EPB doesn't automatically engage for me. It engages only when car is on and I open the door. I am used to turning off the car before I open the door. Shouldn't it automatically engage every time I put the car in P?
No, my dealer says the fix doesn't engage when you put car in park. It engages when you turn the car off. When you turn the car back on, you should see the parking brake engaged.

this is an interesting issue that I didn't anticipate after the KIA update/fix for parking brake (disabling the PB feature during brake services). I haven't had a need to do it yet, but will test this method and report, tnx
Hi All, had the recall done and now it engages when in P and vehicle off. However i need to change my brake pads and there is now way to disengage it. I called dealer and they said they have a device that they can use to disable it - but they said there was no other way. Any suggestions ? I could keep the car on the whole time, but prefer not to … crazy thay you can disable it for towing or brake replacement.
I am having the same issue when exiting the vehicle for a car wash...

To disable the parking brake, try this. I think it works as I was able to “rock/move" the car a little bit after these steps.

I’ll think I got the instructions written down in the right order. If it does not work let me know and I’ll try again or take a video.

While in park do the following:

Press power button one, AC mode.

Press power button again, engine star mode but DO NOT put your foot on the break to start the engine.

Press and hold down the parking brake button down, keep it held down. You should get a prompt to put your foot on the brake to disengage the parking brake. As you do will hear the parking brake disengage.

REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BREAK peddle otherwise the next step will star the engine.

While holding down the parking brake button push the start button to turn everything off.

The parking brake should remain disengaged. I was able to move the car a little which I cannot do when the parking break is engaged.

After the test above the car would not start. I had to lock and then unlock the car to “reset” everything. Not sure why but it worked. (No sure if this step is needed or not)

If these instructions work for other with the updated software, I’ll print them and put them in the car.

I did not try this procedure in neutral or try and release the gear shifter to see if the car would be able to be towed. Others can try that and report back. (I don’t have enough room in the garage and did not want to chance my car rolling away. lol

PS I found this with trial and error. I'm a programmer and think like a lot of other programmers, so, I found this back door. Hope they don't "patch" it.

I am having the same issue when exiting the car for a car wash. The brake engages the car will not move along the conveyor belt unless someone is sitting inside the vehicle. If there are any easy solutions to disengage the parking brake for a car wash, please share.

I just changed my rear brakes thanks to your awesome instructions. Never done brake change before, so I really appreciate your help! I'm going back to my dealership for incomplete recall service due to lack of parts. I'm sure they're gonna check the brakes again just to push me into get their $750 rear brake job again. Spent less than $100 for pads and brake lube!

Is there a moderator that can fix these threads and/or titles?
It should be parking BRAKE, Not parking BREAK.

It's not going out for a cigarette or a cup of coffee!

This is a nice feature. And from my experience, if you never use the parking brake, after 5+ years without use it will maybe seize up and never work again.

I had a 2000 VW Jetta, and never used parking brake until one night. I then drove 3 miles, pulled into a gas station and my entire rotar was bright orange and smoked out the entire street. Dealership said the parking brake was stuck on. Paid $1500 repairs and the car broke down 2 weeks later.. Waste of money lol
