Engine oil leak and now brake fluid leak

It’s been an interesting few months with my 2020 Telluride with just over 10k miles at this point. A couple of months ago I noticed an oil stain in my garage. Sure enough it was leaking oil. After a few days in the shop the dealer found it was a defective plug of some sort. Had to take out the tranny to get to it to fix it. Is no longer leaking. Now today I was out driving and every time I would brake the brake light would come up and flash a message saying low brake fluid. I thought that was odd given just over 10k but I happened to be right by the dealer and they looked at it right away. They said it was bad and brake fluid everywhere and it’s lucky I brought it in because it was almost out and it was dangerous to be driving. Waiting to hear what the underlying issue is.

Just heard from the dealer and a crush washer failed which is what was caused the brake fluid to leak

I've worked on plenty of braking systems in cars including rebuilding calipers, replacing lines, etc.

That sounds like a vast over simplification of what was wrong, if I'm being kind. Was brake fluid ever added to the car during that 10K?

I’ve had no work done to the brakes up until the fluid leaked. I got the final write up from the dealer and it said lf wheel covered in brake fluid looks to be coming from from line to the caliper banjo bolt area found bolt to break loose easily. inspected bolt threads and threads in caliper found to be good. Found the copper washer to have failed. Installed new copper washer, tightened banjo bolt, and added brake fluid

Sounds like a simple washer fail; not something that happens frequently but can happen. Glad they did their due diligence

Something to watch out for around 10K miles? or not a common problem?

This was actually the 2nd washer fail. The other one was what caused my engine oil to leak. In that case they had to take the transmission out to get to it.

Copper crush washers that get over torqued can leak. Sounds like an assembly problem. The amount of times this has happened vs the amount of vehicles produced makes this a small issue. I’m not taking anything away from those people experiencing this problem but the numbers are what they are. Twice on the same vehicle; someone at the plant wasn’t doing the right thing

Yep - 2 crush washer fails now. Both covered under warranty. Both times the dealer gave a loaner car but it’s still concerning especially considering both were major issues and the brake one was to the point of being dangerous to drive per the dealer. I’ve filed a complaint with KIA as this is the 4th issue I’ve had with the vehicle. The other two were not major (no wiring harness installed when built for 1 of the mirrors so it could fold and then a loose piece in the headliner that rattled whenever I went over bumps) but it’s getting annoying. I live 90 miles from the closest dealer. I’ve had great luck with my Sorentos in the past so am just chalking this up to first model year issues

Glad I came across the post. My brand new Telluride started giving a HORRIBLE smell while driving with 2 babies in the car to the point I felt nauseous today. Neighbor came over and sure enough there is oil leaking from the engine. Wondering if this is happening more often than we're aware of. Waiting for my husband to get home. It's our only car to take kids to and from school. Not happy. We just bought it in May.
