• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Curious if anybody or anybody you know has had to have their engine replaced... and for what reason?

A family member also owns a Telluride (2021)... it started acting strange at idle and while cruising at a steady speed. When they pushed on the accelerator, it would get up and go no problem. They took it in and the initial diagnosis was a misfire on one or more of the rear cylinders. Upon further review, it has been determined that there are actually "scored cylinders." They aren't sure what the cause was. So.... a new motor will be going in.

Just putting this out there to see if others have had the same experience. Thanks!

I have a 2020 misfire 5 they are replacing my engine as of today 1/31/23, prior to this zero issues

My 2023 with 2000 miles on it had a misfire on #4. They checked the cylinder and there is soot everywhere. I also have almost no oil left in the engine. They are installing a new long block engine. Hope to get the car back next week.

Hopefully this isn’t an ongoing issue. Guess time will tell

How many miles on your 2020 Telluride? Curious if high mileage or low. Regular routine maintenance done??

My 2020 had the engine replaced at 39k miles in February. It was knocking badly and consuming over 1 qt of oil every thousand miles. It started doing this at about 35k miles.

I’m really sorry to hear that. Are you mechanically inclined or having someone install a new or used engine?
option one is firestone they found a used engine for $6500 including labor, i towed it over to kia dealer and am waiting for them to give me option 2, someone said my insurance may total it out that may be option 3

Insurance would apply if the engine was hit by something, like if you hit a piece of metal in the road and it punctured your engine (under the comprehensive coverage). Insurance does not cover mechanical failures.

im still waiting to hear from kia to see if it was something i hit or if it came from inside

It seems like engine problems are not uncommon with Telly owners. Can someone chime in here bc I am seriously starting to get nervous about pursuing buying a Telly. I havent put my deposit down yet but was planning on doing that tomorrow but may have to find something else.

38k on mine and still runs like day one. Remember when stuff if post on the forums it is only a small percentage or people. It may seem an above average of people are Having the same problem, but in reality it is a very small amount. Maintenance and preventive maintenance are key.

I can tell you that on my Telly the oil was changed per manual’s schedule and it was not driven aggressively or harshly. With the new engine, I’m going to a 4-5k mile oil change interval. Not going to take any chances. The Kia tech I spoke with admitted that he has done a lot of engine replacements on other Kias (just google and you’ll find a history of engine failures) but he has only done a few tellys. I have owned about 20 cars (always had 2 cars simultaneously- a personal car and a work car that would be replaced every 2 years because I drive a lot) and this is the first one I’ve had that needed an engine replacement. I had work cars that I put 60-70k miles on in 2 years and then the fleet company would replace them. Maybe I got a lemon. I like the way the telly drives. But I’m leery about the engines right now.

thanks. that did occur to me that people come to forums looking for help when having problems but that there are likely, hopefully, more people who are having no issues.

Coming up on 50K on mine, Gas mileage is consistently 22-23 highway. Change the oil every 7k with full synthetic. Run injector cleaner every few tank fulls. I have one of the first Tellurides made, built in 2019. Car has performed flawlessly. I like to say that the Telluride community is probably one of the most tech savvy ones out there due to the nature of this car. People researched this car and reviewed it from their devices heavily over the Covid stretch and its will always be a digital media darling. Along with this comes the good and bad, the bad being the instant reporting of issues the car may have. Compare this to other cars I own (Jeep Wrangler) and many of the problems are just a "Jeep Thing" and taken for granted.

thanks for the vote of confidence! I went to the dealership today to drive an everlasting silver 2023 telly. In love. I hope they can trade for an S with a sunroof bc they didnt have it. Keeping my fingers crossed. And I refuse to pay over MSRP and have found other dealerships not upselling.
