• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Faulty Fuel Sensor - 23 SX XPro

Glad to see I'm not the first one to experience this. Filled the tank Monday evening. Drove maybe 20 miles Tuesday. Wed morning when I started the car I immediately got a "Low Fuel. Search For Nearby Stations?" Prompt on the large screen. The fuel level indicator showed 0 fuel but 300+ miles. After a minutes the cruise miles showed 1 than 0. I drove to the gas station and it took 1.8 gallons and still showed 0 fuel, but the indicator gauge slowly started to rise.

Like Dottenm recommended, disconnecting the positive battery cable worked. Forgot to mention I have a '23 X-line

My 24 SX Prestiage purchased 11/22/23 3,200 current milage.I filled my gas tank Saturday morning and came home and put it in the garage.Monday morning as i pull away from my house. The low gas light came on and the nav screen pop up should i locate a gas station.I looked down at my gas gauge and it was below empty and miles to go said ——-.So i went on to run my errands .I had 2 stops and when i got back In and restarted.Same reading on my gas gauge on both restarts.Came home and removed my battery cable for 5 minutes and reattached it and my gas gauge went back to full and miles to go were correct. Now that i think back i thought i was hearing some faint clicking noises i could hear before this happened but i hadn't gave it much thought yet.Until i read this thread.

Took my 24 SXP in today. They diagnosed faulty fuel sensor. Pins 2-6 weren't reading correct. Unfortunately, they didn't have the "correct" fuel sensor replacement in stock. I asked them to have one ready before I took in today. They said today that there are different. They supposedly determined that when they read the serial number off the sensor. IMO, I think that is bogus. Anyway, have to go back next week. My best guess is that Kia had a bad batch back in late spring or early summer of 2023.

This has just happened to me picking my kid up from daycare. Car registered 179 remaining miles with appropriate remaining fuel on the gauge. Parked the car, picked up the kid and bam! --- for remaining miles, fuel gauge shows nothing and dash, low fuel lights come on and car display asks me if I want to search for gas stations. As I drove home, the fuel gauge started to creep back to its normal purple color but still very low.

I have a 2023 SX X-Line. I've had to car for 15 months.

Just followed the battery suggestion and it worked. I have a recall notice so will be taking the car in and will be showing them the videos I've taken of the before and after of the reset.

I used to run into this same issue with my Infiniti Q70 and M35x. When I would see it, I would add a can of SeaFoam motor treatment to the gas tank at a gas station and fill it up. It always solved the issue for at least a year within the same day as when I added it. I don't know if this will work on Telluride's, but it worked great on Infiniti's.

My 2023 Kia SX X-Pro showed no fuel over and over every time it got to 3/4 of a tank it would not register. I took it in they said they couldn't duplicate even though they saw it (just didn't have enough time that day to look at). Took in again and they kept for 2 weeks and said they couldn't do anything about it but did a hard reset on the car that was 6 months ago and never have had it loose fuel again.

So I went to get my car serviced at the dealer today and they said if they could not duplicate the issue then they will charge me $200, since Kia won't cover it! I basically told them to f off, since this car is less than 3 months old and it's not likely they can duplicate this if it's a software issue. Anyway, I spoke to consumer affairs to let them know of the issue. I would suggest you do the same, so they know people are having the issue and get a fix in.

It happened again! The fuel gauge said I had about 54 miles this morning, then after driving about 5 miles I looked down and notice it showed zero. As you can see in the pictures, since the last full refuel it said I had only gone 276 miles, so I knew there should be plenty of fuel left and drove another 17 miles before filling up. However, it only fueled to just over 16 gallons. So that’s over 2.5 gallons less than the stated capacity of 18.8 gallons. Considering I drove 17 miles after it said zero, I actually had about 3 gallons left. Guess I'll waste more time and bring it in again. My first Kia. Is this brand really that crappy and tries to ignore issues?View attachment 30122
Do you have contact information for Consumer Affairs. I am currently at Horne Kia in Gilbert, AZ. They are saying the same thing, "can not duplicate the issue". They suggest bringing it in the next time it happens so they can see it. I think that's complete BS. They should be able to isolate the issue around the fuel sensor.

You can try to replicate the issue by following these steps:

1. When you reach your destination, turn off the engine but leave the audio system on. Continue to play music until the car completely shuts off on its own.

2. Turn on accessory mode by pressing the start button without starting the engine. Keep the audio system on and continue playing the audio for about 10-15 minutes.

3. Turn off the car and lock the doors.

4. After 10-12 hours, turn on the car again, and you should see the system indicating low fuel on the instrument cluster.

I have been able to replicate the issue using these steps most of the time. Occasionally, it might fail, but I'm not sure why.

Good luck!

Just got back from Kia dealership regarding the faulty fuel level readings. They discovered that “The Number 1 Fuel Level Sensor is the point of concern“ and “is out of specifications.” The part has been ordered and we will have it installed in a month or so.
Did that resolve the issue. I am just now having the same issue after taking the car into the dealer.

I have a 2024 SX Prestige that is less than 1000 miles and this has happened twice. My first time owning a Kia...I'm not impressed. Anyone with 2024 having this issue?
Same. I have appointment with dealership. What was your outcome?

I would guess it is a software issue (I am a FW engineer to give a little weight). It happened to mine 1 week after purchase after a refill the day before. Unplugged battery and plugged it back in and has been working fine since.
Software is complicated...
Has this issue happened again ? OR did the battery disconnect reboot fix it for good ?

Did you end up trading this in or selling it by chance?
