• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Here are the details for the first oil change on our Telluride SX AWD. 3585 miles. Dipstick oil did not look bad. Bought the oil filter off of Amazon. Access panel underneath is pretty simple to remove. 10mm with my drill. More in depth details will be included on the second thread as you can only post 10 pictures in a thread.

Thread #2 Here are the details for the first oil change on our Telluride SX AWD. 3585 miles. 17mm wrench to get the bolt off. Oil was pretty dark. Oil filter removal was the one thing that seemed more concerning than anything else. I used my drill and a 27mm deep socket. The filter canister does not come off smooth. I was very careful removing it since it is plastic. No way I would be able to remove the filter housing with my bare hands. Also when putting it back on it just wasn't smooth when tightening by hand.

Filling oil. I think I need to buy a different funnel as the spot where you fill has a blocking piece that doesn't allow the funnel to go down. I just held it above that area as I was filling it up.

Overall fairly easy oil change.

Nice thanks for posting. How many qts does it call for, 6? And any particular reason for going with the "high mileage" branded oil, just curious?

It is close to 6 quarts. I bought the high mileage because I wasn't paying attention. I figure it wouldn't hurt it.

Thank you!

Did you replace the oil pan plug washer that came with the replacement filter?

I did not. I was wondering what that was for :D. Thanks

Does the Telluride require full synthetic oil? Mobil-1 FS is usually my go to oil for my vehicles.

I don't think it requires full synthetic but I use it in all my vehicles. I like Castrol but I only base that off of not having issues with my other vehicles when using it. I think most of the top brands protect the engine long term.

No, oil just has to meet ASEA A5 specs, if that's not available, you can use ASEA A3 specs.

If you're a Costco member, they have their Full Synthetic 5w30 on sale. You get two 5-quart containers for $26.99 shipped. That's a smoking deal. It does meet the requirements of Kia.

What brand of oil does KIA use at the dealership, or does it vary from dealer to dealer so long as it meets KIAs specifications? A quick Google search didn't give a brand, only oil specs recommended.

Trying to locate my answer I've come to that conclusion as well. Best answer is to just call that particular service dept and ask, may not even be a name brand anyway. I know some automakers for example recommend and/or require, and use Mobil-1. Was wondering if KIA did the same. Thanks
