My wife is at the dealer as we speak for her first oil change, as we get 3 free ones with the purchase. I had sent along 2 gallons of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to use, and my wife just called me telling me that she's told if we use our own oil and something happens to the engine, it's not covered. I call BS and ask to speak to the service manager, who tells me Kia recommends a semi-syn, and if I use anything different, and something happens, it's on me. I say, no, this oil meets the specs required by Kia for this vehicle, and to suggest that it may impact the warranty is false. I'm then told that they'll put in whatever oil we want, but they want us to be aware of the warranty. I again push back and tell him my oil meets the requirements. He then admits he hasn't even looked to see what kind of oil I brought, so I now assume this is a prepared script.
I'm really taken aback by this---it was almost threatening. Has anyone heard something similar from their dealer? Or heard any issues with using full synthetic?
