• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... So never having owned a KIA and to be quite honest if you suggested it to me in the last 10 years I would have laughed. To me a KIA was like the Walmart of motor vehicles.
So - I am an older fellow and have had more cars than I care to talk about you could say I’m a veteran of the car wars..😂

Well being in the market for a larger sized SUV I did look at and test drive a new Telluride and I have to say admittedly impressed. As previously stated as a car buying veteran I was taken back at the dealers almost arrogance in saying we will sell you this for a strict MSRP. As noted I am very well familiar with markups having shopped recently for a C8 and Shelby GT500 silly markups are - well 😜 silly. Never paid one, never will...!!!

So I was absolutely SHOCKED when the sales manager stated that to me. He said: “don’t worry we won’t be charging you the $3995 delivery fee - being as your a former LEO officer” ... huh... I said to myself what kind of shit is this fellow talking about...? I was expecting to start negotiating half or more of the hold back money and here he is talking about what a great deal he was giving me selling at the MSRP number - WHAT... ???

so I’m looking for some enlightenment before I head down to Hyundai to test drive the Paslisades...? Thanks - 👋🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately with the demand, MSRP is considered the normal/good price for a Telluride, especially for an in stock one. You might be able to get a discount off of Palisade, some of my local H dealers are advertising $2K off.

Many on this board were in your shoes. MSRP+ for a Kia??? Unheard of!! Once you start your research, you will soon find out Telluride is an outstanding value even at MSRP. There seems to be some decent competition, MDX, Cherokee L, and Pathfinder to name a few, coming this year from other brands, so you can always stick around to see how the market unfolds.

At MSRP, the Telluride (the segment leader) is still priced several thousand less than competitors like the Highlander (barring any discounts one get get on the Toyota).

Whether paying MSRP (or higher) depends on how much one likes the Telluride compared to the competition (which includes the Palisade).

For certain buyers, they see the (loaded) as a considerable cost savings to something like the XC90.

The RAV4 Prime has been selling at a premium and there are Cali dealerships asking for $10k above list for a Bronco Sport (so not even for the real Bronco).

As iterated, MSRP is considered a good price on the higher trims, esp. the SXP.

Usually can get some $ off msrp for the lower end trims.

People want this car. It's a great vehicle and value priced for what you get. It consistently wins awards and comparisons with everything in its segment.

MSRP is a good price, considering the high demand and the ever-accumulating accolades for the Telluride.

The Palisade is a good car but ugly and boring in my opinion with a bit of an old fart vibe, like the Honda Pilot. Says this old fart.

OK - so I don't have a problem paying MSRP (it's the tag ons) -

paying for dealer prep to the tune of $850.00,
paying two freight charges totaling $2300.00, yup two freight charges -
DOC fee of $799 -

sorry man ain't doing it THAT WILL BE THE F'in DAY I PAY FOR DEALER PREP not to mention all the rest of the BS... and the name of the dealer is Battleground KIA in Greensboro, NC

So although "THEY SAY" there's no markup there actually is only labeled and delivered in a different way -

Why would there be two freight charges? That's nuts. Yah, those add-ons are unreasonable.

Other dealers have better prices.

I drove 10 hours to Texas to get a better deal than I could get locally. I ended up paying MSRP minus $400 military discount (veteran), plus 4% New Mexico Sales tax. There was also a $150 "Document Fee" and another $183.25 Fee that was I think just a dealer admin fee, so $333.24 in title, license and doc fees. I could live with that. Plus, a few weeks after I got back home, I received a $35 check from the dealer with no clear explanation. I called them and was told they had determined they have over-charged me for the fees and were refunding the amount they determined they over charged. It wasn't a lot of money, but it was nice of them to do that - had they not I'd probably never have known the difference. To top it off, when we went out to the lot to look at my car, I discovered they had thrown in a complete set of Kia OEM All Weather floor mats at no additional charge. That was a $259 value which, along with my $35 refund almost completely made up for the "fees".

Like you, I'm an older guy who has never paid MSRP, let alone over MSRP for a car in my life (Paid $4000 under MSRP for my Corvette). That said, given the obvious demand for the Telluride, I felt I probably got about as good a deal as possible in the current supply/demand environment.
