In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Internet says 18.8 gallons. Today I was on empty (fuel range 5 miles)and was only able to put 13 gallons of gas in my tank. That seems like a small tank for an SUV. My previous Chevy Avalanche had a 30-gallon tank. I looked in the manual and can't find where it lists the size. Does anyone have this information? I'm wondering if my sensors are faulty. If I could only put in 13 gallons and it's showing a full tank, then something is not right..... Was I really on empty?
Thanks

Filled up for the first time yesterday and fuel gauge showed slightly over 1/4 tank and it took 13 gallons. Something could have been wrong with the pump?

It might be sensor or gauge problem.
I had a problem with the fuel gauge two months ago. The tank was about 2/3 full, but I wanted to fill it up in full before long road trip. I put it about 5 gallons, and parked on grocery parking lot which is hundreds feet away from the gas station. I realized the gauge showed only about 80% full, so back to the gas station and put more gas. It was overfilled. The gauge moved very slowly and it moved to the full after one hour driving. It has not happened again. I've had no issues with the gauge since then.

When the empty light first comes on, you have at least 2 gallons left in the tank. Should fill to around 16

My Atlas will usually only take 13 when it shows very low, same sise tank 18.5, with the great milage you don't need a humongous tank like the chevy gas hog

Right. But I don't want to feel like I need to get gas when I actually have 5 gallons left in my tank. if my vehicle is showing that I have 5 miles of range left before my car is stalled out in the side of the road and I have 5 gallons just sitting in my tank, that's a problem

I think the sensor or gauge had a problem.
I was driving to Las Vegas from Colorado. I remember my wife urged me to put in gas as the fuel range became under 100 miles.
I ended up putting in gas at about 30 miles fuel range. The receipt shows 17.05 gallon was put into my Telluride. (My wife keeps all receipts in the order of date.)

I think that it's something wrong with the sensor too, when I pick it up from the dealer it read 416mpg, then when I went to fill it up it said 367mpg, and that was on full just like at the dealership.

The range changes based on the average mpg of the previous full tank

18 is a bit small

Tellurides gas tank is just too small for me. That was the kicker in my decision. Durangos is over 24 gallon and can tow more.

Car was completely empty, 0 miles on the range and I filled it as much as I could and got 16 gallons. It is too small for this size vehicle. More of a annoyance than to have me buy a completely different vehicle.

Its good to see but actually doesn't help at all. Unless your comfortable driving with your gas gauge light on and your distance to empty with no digits, you are going to stop and get gas even though theoretically you still have 10% of your fuel still left. It funny since I got sidetracked yesterday and didn't get gas and in the evening was sweating out the trip to the gas station in the morning when the mileage to empty never came off of non readable. I guess I should of relaxed knowing I still have 2 more gallons?

I very seldom let the tank get below 1/4 of of tank. I know the capacity is kind of small but not a big deal to me. We get close to 400 miles out of a tankful.

Just put in 17.41 gallons with 2 miles left.

17.219g at 11mi range left (avg is 20mpg) - I find that often the gas nozzle clicks off prematurely if it’s just clipped vs held.

I too put 17.x gallons in today with less than 30 miles left

So based on this, 11 more miles would have consumed another half gallon. That would have put me at 1 gallon under 18.75 - so my bet is that when your range reaches zero, there’s still 1 gallon of fuel left. I need to put a 5 gallon gas can in the back and test it at some point….
