Good Dealer Dealings - List Your Good Dealer Experience

Adding Sterling Kia in Bryan Texas as a great dealer in Texas! After a year and a half of trying to order and then actually purchase a Telluride for MSRP, I finally drove away with mine! I was able to order from Sterling Kia last year and drove away with my new Dark Moss EX this last weekend. They were totally honest and upfront with everything, very friendly staff with no hassle at the dealership, it was a great experience, and I am sooooo happy to finally be part of the owners club!

I had a fantastic experience with Brent Lewis at Bill George's Olathe Kia in Olathe, Ks. I paid sticker after calling him a couple times to discuss unspoken for, incoming inventory. Each time we spoke he had some available a 1-2 months out. I got lucky a month ago and someone backed out of a deal on my GG SXP AWD NF. Put down a $1,000 deposit over the phone and waited patiently. Brent gave an estimated delivery date and they beat it by a few days. Super laid back dealer with a small town feel despite being located in a suburb of a big town. Likely not a volume dealer as their inventory is pretty low, but also always had options incoming on this very popular model. Failcat showed they are getting 8+ Tellys per month. Definitely willing to shoot straight with you and not force market adjustment pricing or a bunch of add ons. I secured an MSRP deal and the best financing Kia had available even though we couldn't come to an agreement on my trade. Largely because, even I, think one of the online car vendors is overpaying me to come pick my old SUV up.
I couldn't have been happier. Post sales service was great. Gave you all the finance manager options without being pushy. All in all one of the best car buying experiences I've had and I'm middle aged with quite a few swings at dealing on cars.

Bergey’s Kia in Lansdale, PA. Sold me an incoming SXP NFE in Dark Moss for MSRP with no haggling. Wait was only 2 weeks. Ask for Tony Galinski. Nice guy.

Did you pay for any GPS or any other add on?

Been shopping around since last week. Called/emailed probably 20 dealers in the mid-Atlantic area between Central PA, Baltimore, western Md and Philly. Based on the recommendations here and on reddit, these are the dealers that I have found that sell at MSRP.
  • York Kia (York PA)
  • C Harper Kia (Vernon PA)
  • Buchanan Kia (Westminster MD)
  • Jim Shorkey (Irwin, PA)
  • Abeloff Kia (Stroudsburg, PA) - I placed a deposit here.

All of the people that I have talked to at the above places have been decent to work with trying to identify cars in transit but not yet claimed. They are not the high volume dealers that I found in Baltimore and Philly, but they have a slow steady stream. They mostly sell a lot because they aren't doing mark-up. You'll have to check the lots, but if you are particular with what you want, you will have to find a salesperson willing to look into what they have coming in, and catch them before they hit the lots. The other local dealers in Southern/central PA are too low volume, that you might as well place an order if you are going with them (Mechanicsburg, Lancaster, Savage(Reading), Renn Kirby (Gettysburg), etc). All of these dealers, and all of the dealers doing markups DID offer to place an order without markup. They varied on the timelines promised, from 90 days to 6 months (which I know they really have no control over).

I'll post in the bad thread too, but just to mention here the others I ran into:
  • Jones Kia (Bel Air MD) - 5k markup on EX and SX. You can probably get the lower trims without markup. Had an attitude over text that turned me off on even trying to negotiate.
  • Lutherville (Lutherville MD) 5k markup.
  • Cherry Hill NJ - $$Markup but would not tell me what it is, tried to get me to come in several times, an hour and a half drive, without even bothering to tell me the price. Does have inventory on the lot if you're willing to deal with the haggling antics, maybe you can get a good deal? I wasnt about to find out if I had that kind of patience (hint: I dont)
  • Kia on the Blvd - $5995 Markup - Had inventory on the lot- so again, if you're looking for here and now- good luck
  • Kia West Chester & Kia Coatesville - Charging $3500 Markup on EX/SX trims. Lower trims negotiable (supposedly). Marvin was good to work with, just didn't have what I wanted or what I wanted to pay.
I ultimately put a refundable deposit on one that isn't yet showing up on internet searches, so I don't have the VIN or delivery date. Supposed to be early May it's a nightfall Dark Moss EX at MSRP plus a doc fee.

Here's a pic on the dealer lot from my pickup date.

Salisbury Kia in MD was great to work with. They also honor the MSRP with no BS. They just received my SXP NF in Everlasting Silver, but I’m no longer driving to MD because my exact car is available closer to home at MSRP. It made sense to cancel the order in MD and stick with a dealer in my home state.
Hi, Can you tell me who you worked with at Salisbury Kia? I'm working with a Sydney via email now and she is saying they have a mark-up of $1995 on a pre-order. Thanks, I really appreciate any information you can provide.

Hi, I definitely worked with Sydney, perhaps the dealer has started marking up the price☹️. My car arrived April 6, but I got an MSRP offer in the state I live, so I had to cancel. They must have sold the Telly right away and now want to be greedy with the orders 😖

Thanks so much for replying. So you got your deposit back correct? Do you live in Long Island, NY? I live in VA. Is your dealership selling at MSRP? Your pic above is gorgeous! I'm going for the Gravity Gray.

Yep. Going to fly out and road trip back.
Hello again, San Diego. I have another quick question I forgot to ask in my last post. I am making the same trip as you from Colorado to Southern California when my car comes in. Do you have any concerns about the break-in period for the car, specifically the suggestion to not maintain the same speed for long distances? I don't want to break my baby on its first journey. :) Thanks!

Some information posted from other members. I'm going to go on some of scenic, non interstate routes and if on interstate not use cruise.

They advise against towing for the first 1200 miles. Below is from the manual:

No special break-in period is needed. By following a few simple precautions for the first 600 miles (1,000km) you may add to the performance, economy and life of your vehicle.

Do not race the engine.
  • While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
  • Do not maintain a single speed for long periods of time (cruise control), either fast or slow. Varying engine speed is needed to properly break-in the engine.
  • Avoid hard stops, except in emergencies, to allow the brakes to seat properly.
  • Don't tow a trailer during the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) of operation.

It’s more important to break in the engine and not push it at a high speed. Most people drive slower when towing just don’t try to go 75mph+ and you will be fine. I recommend to try your best to let the engine warm up, gradually accelerate and decelerate as smoothly as possible, don’t go too fast and avoid hard breaking. A long trip is a great way to break in the engine over a bunch of small trips around town where you start and stop the engine. Don’t forget to check your tire pressure.

What great information, and makes me feel a lot less nervous about the drive. Thank you so much!

Very good dealership experience at Charlie's Kia in Augusta Maine. Just as ordered, no surprises, just paperwork and a quick rundown to get started. Joe Furrow and Joe Ronco were great to communicate is are with and very straightforward. Today was the first time I was in the dealership and I left with my new Telly SXP AWD. And at MSRP minus rebate.

What was the rebate?

What was the rebate?
$500 with the 2.25%Kia financing or straight up 1.9%, but with money down and trade, the higher percentage rebate reduced my payment $3/month...

I traded a 5 week old 2021 Telluride EX for a 2021 SXP. I wanted a different color and more features. Chris Fabian at Kia Country in Charleston, SC was fabulous. I thought it would be impossible to do, but he worked his magic and made my dream come true. He even drove 2.5 hrs to meet me to deliver it. The best car buying experience ever!

Hi Memphis baby, Safford Kia did not even ask for a deposit. If I purchased the car in MD, it would have been a hassle to transfer plates. The DMV on line reservations in Long Island, NY is about a 1 month wait, plus I would have to take the day off from work. The customer service in MD was good also. I’m sorry to hear they are now selling over MSRP. Perhaps you can call again and ask for another sales person (you have nothing to lose).

MemphisBaby, I’m not sure where you are in VA, but we have placed our order with Parsons Kia in Winchester. I posted earlier in this thread about my experience so far. No deposit and selling at MSRP. We are still waiting but it’s all been positive so far. Maybe that dealer is an option for you? I’m in VA, but Parsons will be more than an hour away for us so we’ve been doing everything by phone and email so far.

So did you not find one yet? There are a handful of dealers in MD, VA and PA not charging over msrp for orders or in stock inventory. What part of VA are you in and how far are you willing to drive?
