• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I see on the comparison that HDA is only available on EX and SX and is described as:

"In regions where speed limit information is available, the Highway Driving Assist (HDA) can adjust the vehicles cruising speed to match the vehicle ahead as well as changing speed limits. "

I read this as adding speed limits into the equation, as in if I have it set to 75, and it reads a 70 sign, will it bump me down to 70mph?

Additionally, doesn't smart cruise control already adjust my speed to match the vehicle ahead and lane keep assist keeps me in the lane? Kind of unclear what exactly this feature is adding beyond potentially slowing my car down based on signs. There doesn't appear to be much info on the website or I am looking in the wrong places.

TLDR: What is the difference between HDA and smart cruise control + lane keep assist.

Thanks!

I just used it for the first time yesterday. It only activates when you set the cruise control to the EXACT speed limit- then AUTO pops up on console. If you set cruise control any other number it wont set. So I set mine to 65 yesterday (in a 65) and when I got closer to downtown the speed limit dropped to 55 and my car beeped as soon as I went by the 55 mph zone and dropped automatically. It does not seem to slow down in construction zones, I think it just pulls the speed limit from map data. Pretty cool, but I usually go 5-8 MPH over speed limit so I wont be using it much.

Yes adaptive cruise control will match the cars speed in front of you, which is what I do alot. Yes and lane keep assist will keep you in the lane and steers. Its pretty crazy, the car pretty much drives itsself on the freeway. I have literally let go of the steering wheel (I know, not safe...) , even on pretty decent turns on the freeway and the car just takes over and keeps the speed. If you happen to go over the lane on your own, the car beeps, vibraates and nudges you back in your lane.

HDA is good for people who like to only go the speed limit, and might be nice for long trips. It will always stay the speed limit, and if someone happens to get in front of you and go slower, it will slow down with the adaptive cruise control. It will just never go above the speed limit if you have it set on HDA Auto :)

I copied this out of the Owners Manual, it may help explain it. I do know it will only work if you initially set the cruise to the speed limit shown on the navigator. No higher speed setting will adjust. So if you set 73 in a 70 zone, highway driving assist will not adjust to 65 or 55 when the speed zone changes.

Awesome! Thanks guys. Definitely clears it up!

HDA also is a bit more active in terms of keeping you in the center of the lane, and hopefully not as much ping-ponging side to side as Lane Keep Assist would tend to do.

hmm my Lane Keep Assist works pretty well on the freeway. I dont have HDA activated most of the time and my Telluride stays in the center of the lane very well for the most part. If your telluride is "ping-ponging" around, I would get it checked out asap!

How slow will adaptive cruise control go before it cancels out? If you set it to 60 mph and then get stuck in a traffic jam, will it keep working all the way down to zero mph and then move you forward when the car in front of you starts moving again?

It won’t cancel out. I’ve set it in traffic jams and it will slow to 0 and move with the car in front of me. If it sits at 0 for like a couple seconds it thinks your at a red light and will require you to press the resume button on streerng wheel or tap on the gas to resume. In my case traffic really never completely stopped so it didn’t require any interaction :)

I'm still figuring out all the safety options on our SX but from reading the manual there is an option called lead car departure or something like that. If enabled it requires you to either tap the gas or hit the speed up rocker to get moving again when stop and go cruise completely stops the car. If disabled I assume the Telluride will auto start when the lead car starts moving like other adaptive cruise systems. I think the lead car departure gives you an alert when the lead car moves. I will likely disable it on ours. Seems like it promotes texting or Facebooking at stop lights.

No, if you disable it your KT will do nothing. Auto start only works with HDA (that means on highways where HDA is designed to work). On other routes, it'll give you a warning, but you'll have to either press the accelerator or push up/down the cruise control speed button (as you stated) for the the car start. It will "auto start" on all roads if SCC stops your KT for less than 5s (5s is a guess because I can't remember the exact duration).

I though you could leave HDA on and disable just the lead car departure option. I'll have to play around with it more. Can't take it out until my ceramic coating arrives and I get it applied. Prep is all done.

yea, that lead car departure makes no sense to me..from the way it sounds, it works just like the normal stop and go from SCC..
