• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I can send a text by pressing the voice command button on the steering wheel, and I can have incoming messages read to me while I'm driving. What I can't seem to do is access "text messages" from Android Auto or the Infotainment system. My previous Mazda had a menu item that displayed your most recent text messages and let you read them (or have the system read them aloud) or reply to them at time of your choosing. Does this functionality exist on telluride?

On my iPhone, when hooked up for Car Play, I can access the list of messages (by selecting the Message App from the car play screen), but oddly, when I tap one of the previous messages it doesn't play the message. Instead, it asks "what do you want to say?" as if to send a new message to. that recipient. I can't find a way to playback previous messages. If it's possible, I haven't figured out how.

Try asking Siri to reread it. It works on my iPhone. I am not in my car to test it with CarPlay at the moment.

My other suggestion would be to post this question in a iPhone/Apple forum as it’s more about CarPlay than Kia.

Mazda's system doesn't depend on Apple play or Android auto. It has text functionality using Bluetooth to access your phone's messages, and it is a menu item in the car screen system. I miss that feature in the Kia

If you are asking about a list of text messages while connected via bluetooth, it does exists in the UVO phone screen. Go to phone from the main icon pages or press the call button on your steering wheel to open the phone screen. Then tap on the icon that looks like a mail envelope.

Sorry if this question seems basic, but it is related: Do you have to be connected to apple Carplay to have incoming messages read or is there a UVO/Kia app that does this via bluetooth on my Apple phone? I hate the "cable"...I like a clean look and maybe I'm too OCD about it.

You could try something like this to eliminate the cable: CPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay on CARPLAY2air.com

Thanks for the tip. I can indeed get to the text menu as you directed, but only if phone is plugged in. Also, it only shows messages that have arrived since the ignition was last started. I miss being able to access other recent texts via Bluetooth.

Yes, when connected via bluetooth, you will get a pop up message and you will need to tap read to hear the message read over your speakers. This is through the Kia/UVO phone integration.

Hey, question for you. I don't use UVO. My previous car would read my messages out loud through Bluetooth. The Telly shows me the screen above and lets me know I have a message, but won't read it out just through Bluetooth. Do you know if this is possible? Seems odd to have less functionality than older Honda.

This is killing me!!!

I saw this notice on day one of owning the Telluride and I accidentally touched the wrong button and now I can't get that message back!

So are you saying there isn’t a button on that pop up window you can tap that says “Read” or “Listen”? It will not read aloud the message automatically if you do not physically touch the button on the screen. I am still on my complimentary trial, so it works as designed for me.

I could see how the voice dictation read back function could rely on UVO subscription/activation to work though. Maybe the head unit doesn’t have pre-loaded words to read back text messages offline. I’ll find out when my subscription expires. I don’t really use this feature often anyway.

Is it possible the last time you saw the pop up you enabled “Privacy Mode”? Doing this will prevent any future popups. This setting was probably intended to keep you from getting in trouble with your wife/gf when your side chick texts you. 😂

I think if you go into your settings for phone in the heat unit, there should be a checkbox to disable privacy mode back to normal operation.

Yah, the read and listen buttons are there, but nothing happens when I push them. In my Honda, a weird electronic voice would read the text to me, and then there was a preset range of "written" responses I could send, like "Yes, that's great" or "I'll call you soon" or whatever.

I'll keep experimenting. But I'm not going to rely on UVO, as I'm not willing to pay for that service. Maybe when your subscription ends, you can have a poke around!

Okay, I must be a total moron. Sent myself some text messages today in the car and the system worked like it did in my old car. It's a bit weird bc the screen is mainly filled with a message something like "This function is not available while the car is moving" but there are still read and reply buttons and they work fine. Read = read aloud and reply = pick from a list of replies. I don't seem to be able to do a voice reply - maybe that's the big difference from UVO.

Anyway. Just wanted to officially record my dumbassness here!

Dumbassness is duly noted. Happy New Year!
