If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... According to this AP story the container ship that capsized off the coast of Georgia was carrying 4000 Kia's and Hyundai's bound for Baltimore. Thankfully it sounds like the crew will be OK. As someone who placed an order a month ago my next thought is what this might do for delivery times.

The ship is heading for the Middle East !

What are the cars on the ship?

Is there a site with details of cars and the number of each type?

Yikes, now they gotta replace those lost ASAP and push back on EVERYTHING down the line!

Are sunken cars damaged?
Or re-repaired
Repaired and sold?

They are a casualty loss and will be destroyed. An insurer will pick up the tab for re-building them.

Who is waiting for the car?
Are you expected to get one of the sunken car?
Fix it and export it again!

Or are cars destroyed?

West Point Georgia produces three models 1) Telluride 2) Sorento and 3) Optima

Using the August 2019 sales figures we can see that there were 6,374 Tellurides , 9,160 Sorentos & 9,259 Optimas sold.

Therefore, the percentage of Tellurides sold was 25.7%. That means about 1,000 Tellurides out of 4,000 vehicles could potentially be lost. According to KMMG, there are 940 dealerships across the United States and Canada that the Georgia plant supply. This means that the dealers will be short about 1 Telluride (assuming equal distribution) for this month. Assuming similar sales trend as August, each dealership should still be getting about 5 more Tellurides this month.

These is just an estimate and assumes many things, including the assumption that the Port of Baltimore is the main distribution hub that KIA uses to ship West Point vehicles throughout the US and Canada.

I think it'll impact the dealership inventory by about a week, assuming KIA can find transport quickly. Factory orders with custom configurations may be impacted more severely.

I highly doubt cars made for the US & Canadian markets were on this tanker. Do you put a car on a tanker to go through the Panama Canal, off load at Long Beach and then truck ship it to a dealer in say Vegas or Memphis?

in the news
The ship is heading for the Middle East !
Not for the USA

Don't they have salt water damage now?

Repairing the electronics on a completely salt water submerged would be difficult at best. I suspect that these vehicles will be covered by insurance at a total loss and be destroyed. Water damaged vehicles are never right after being flooded. That's why you always want to be wary of getting a used vehicle that was in a flood/hurricane zone.

I remember a shipmemt of BMWs in the same position , the cars were "fixed" and re sold .............these cars are chained into place but looking at this ship on its side would suggest they will have significant body damage vs water damage .......................

in USA the cars would have a title change to a salvage title

Can you have a salvage title on a new car?

Presumably that's what actually happens

I just got my Telluride 2 weeks ago after putting in the waiting list for about 5 months.
I noticed a wind sound coming from my side's window, driver's side, which wasn't there when I drove the test drive car.
In addition, I have noticed the rear bumper is low in the left which is also not seeing in other Telluride vehicle. Also, the 3rd row left side AC ventilation is clogged.
I feel like I was given a damaged car. I feel like I was given either from one of these sunken cars or from an emergency production line where they don't have a good final inspection. Anyway, I made an appointment today to have them check and I will try to have them fix My new car which I wasn't even driving more than 10 miles 😭.
I will keep you updated on what will happen with the dealer
I live in Saudi Arabia and I have only one dealer for Kia

I just got back my car from them. They said that AC ventilation is manufactured to blow out one side only, which is weird explanation giving from an engineer.
For the windy sounds, they said that they aligned the door. I'm still hearing the wind sound.
And finally for the low rear bumper, they asked me to take it to the other branch where is located about 7 hours from my home.
