KIA Muncie - What was the time from order to delivery of your Telluride?

Sept 16 sxp copper black dune tow package. No word yet but obviously this is a hard color combo.
We have the exact same order placed 10/9. Update from our dealer (McGrath Kia Hiawatha, IA) last Saturday. We now have an initial delivery date of 3/12. I hope you have some news soon.

I got a used Honda in the interim. They hold their value extremely well, especially if they have low miles. I picked a 2011 CR-V when my Sorento lease was up earlier in the year and it barely lost any value. I'll sell it whenever my Telly comes in. It may be too late for you do this but it could have been a good option versus extending your lease.

Yes it would basically be only needed for a month or two. Trying not to stress but it’s hard not to. Thanks for the advice.

I have “stepped up to the plate” at several dealerships this year. Put the check on the desk in front of them to buy, but they just didn’t want to come down from their crack pipe prices. I have enjoyed plenty of complimentary coffee, soda, and popcorn but each time I just move along.

Yes, I have one Telluride on order at Muncie. Nothing but good to report so far in working with Kia of Muncie. I believe Jason Fox being active on this forum and the pricing at Muncie have resulted in plenty of well deserved orders. But here’s the rub....are the allocations of Tellurides to Muncie going to be enough to satisfy the demand there? I’ve read on this forum about the high/low volume dealers and how that affects the allocations. So as the demand for the Telluride continues to remain strong, if I want to order another Telluride will I need to order from a higher volume dealer to cut down my wait time....I don’t know. This is where I feel Kia can do much better. Build the cars on order and get them to the dealerships to close the sale.

Understood, and yes, you are correct. It is a good question, as Muncie's Telluride allocations have been at the median of dealerships - so around 7 per month. Should ask where you are in the order queue. And if a dealership has 150 orders but is only getting 7-10 per month... well, doesn't seem likely that all orders will be fulfilled in a timely fashion and wait times could be drastic. But, let's see - some August and and September orders were apparently filled within 3-4 months - so that's great! You are right to think about allocations vs orders.

To be completely honest... We had someone place an sx Fwd order 3 weeks ago and it's on it's way in January. How did this happen? Because the KIA God's said so. I wish what we did was a science however it is not. All KIA Dealers were told to use allocation to fill sold orders. We are doing so. Delivered vehicles at every store could come quicker if dealers did just that however they want inventory on lots with high mark ups and also get some of the order/sold pie as well. This will all catch up eventually... You do what the Mother Ship says and that is what we are doing. Orders are backed up at every dealer across the nation. MotorTrend SUV Of The Year has just pushed that to an entirely new level. After the award dealers found a way to raise prices even higher. We won't be a part of that madness.

Great answer! Yes, let's hope they keep rolling in!

That’s what’s up!

I put a deposit down for a Telluride S from Century Kia in Tampa on Jan. 20th. I have been told to expect a 6-8 week wait. I am adding a week cushion and realize it could be longer. Does anyone have an idea how long it has recently been taking to get a VIN and then how long to get the car delivered?

Total crapshoot it comes in 6-8 wks but highly unlikely unless it was an already allocated/ordered vehicle. Best guess is to use some of the tools out here (the spreadsheet) and the newer VIN search site that was created. You might have a better chance since it's an S vs. an SXP. All depends on how many allocations your dealer gets of a particular model/trim each month, and how many people are in front of you with that model/trim level. I'm in 10 weeks now waiting for an SXP, no end in sight. Was originally told 4-5 months back in Nov, but expect late March. High probability I won't see mine until May based on what I'm seeing (I really hope not that long). There are others from my same dealer on this site that ordered in late August and haven't rec'd an ETA yet which has me worried.

Dealers already know what they've been allocated and submitted through March deliveries (and now looking like some April ETA's) from what I hear on this site. Recently some folks at dealers on here stated that the 15th-17th of the month they have to push sold orders into their allocations. That was already done by the 20th when you ordered. So the next potential group is Feb 15-17th entry into KFOS with likely late April/early May ETA's if I've deciphered how it works correctly.

I was at a dealership in Indianapolis yesterday picking up my Telluride and their view seemed to be that orders were taking about 12 weeks. We didn't talk specific model types and build outs though as it seems pretty clear that SXPs are taking longer. Interestingly, the particular sales person I was speaking with said that they didn't do special orders (meaning customer builds), but just tried to fill Tellurides allocated to them. A senior manager commented that demand was unlike anything they had ever seen in the industry. Several said what Jason has said, that demand shot up with the Motor Trend award. They had two outside that were not sold. I believe they were both EXs and FWD. They had mine (SXP with tow) and another (SXP) being prepped for customer delivery.

How much over MSRP did they charge? If they didn’t do customer orders it’s likely because they want to cash in... or you got lucky.

So Kia of Muncie gets 7 Tellurides per month of which 1 or 2 will be SXP’s. Maybe!!! So if my SXP order is 25th on their list i’m Looking at 12-24 months? Unless the Kia god intervenes.
