• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Let's discuss all the viable competitors to the KIA Telluride. As mentioned in another discussion, the Telluride is not a large SUV. It's a midsize. Competitors are the BMW X5, Volkswagen Atlas, Subaru Ascent. What else does the Telluride directly compete with?

  • Hyundai Palisade
  • BMW X5
  • Volkswagen Atlas
  • Subaru Ascent
  • Ford Explorer
  • Honda Pilot
  • Toyota Highlander
  • Mazda CX-9
  • Chevrolet Traverse
  • GMC Acadia
  • Buick Enclave
  • Dodge Durango

Is the BMW X7 just an X5 with a third row? If so, then it could be added here as a competitor to the Telluride. Have we missed anything in the first post?

Really wouldn't consider the X5 (in terms of space, would be the X7) as a competitor, even if some may cross-shop the 2.

Kia is contemplating developing its own lux CUV (or 2) based on the GV80's platform - which would actually compete head-to-head w/ the X5.

Seeing as you can add an optional 3rd row (albeit nearly useless for adults) in the X5, I consider both the X5 and X7 competitors to the Telluride. The X7, due to front and rear cosmetic protrusions, measures almost 7 inches longer than the Telluride, yet interior capacities are similar.

I am cross shopping Telluride vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee - Limited X

JGC is nice, but only two row and you'll need to use the Summit level for an accurate comparison. The Durango is at least a three row.

Agree.

I really like the exterior look of Grand Cherokee Limited X or Altitude, but the interior of the Jeep is very dated, and wish they had more color options for leather seats.

I am on the fence about waiting for Palisade, as I really want a digital instrument cluster.

BMW = Buy More Warranty .......................I've got all the scars ,9 of them over 12 years . Take them off your list unless you want an intimate relationship with their service department . I will say that my 5.0 X5 Sport was the best BMW we had

actually was also looking at used 2016 BMW X3 and X5 , around $35k with 30k miles. I love iDrive infotainment, but looks like Telluride infotainment has similiar setup with split screen - and Carplay, which older BMW does not have.

Telluride vs BMW SUV!

my only advise if you choose BMW , make sure its a CPO , and if they offer an extended warranty buy it . My wifes last BMW was a 550 GT as it was hitting the end of the warranty period and we had decided to keep it a few more years , and thankfully purchased an extended warranty for $3K .................5 months later we had incurred OVER $13,000 k IN REPAIRS . Steering wheel assembly , power seats , transmission .........................they are expensive to fix . Its part of the Kia charm with the longer warranty .

I just traded my JGC Overland for a Telluride and love the Telluride way more than my Jeep!

Old thread. Anyway, I just recently had seat time in my friend's '19 Acura MDX. While I'm familiar with the car, I hadn't seen in a new one in a few years. The MDX may be a dynamic car to drive but I was left less than impressed by its interior. I know it will be replaced soon but for the current asking price, I would say it's not on par with the Kia for family use (it's sized more like a Sorento inside it seems). No 3rd row a/c vents which I found really surprising and he had the Advance trim. The two screen interface was ancient at best with abysmal graphics. It seemed well made from a craftsmanship standpoint but the materials themselves were nothing to write home about. I think it just goes to show how much people are impressed by marketing and brand names vs the actual product. It also has no secondary sunroof which I find really odd since damn near every 3 row SUV save the CX-9 has that now. It did have passenger side lumbar and a power tilt wheel. But for about $10k more, I just think it's worth it. If Kia can improve their powertrains, I think they can continue to punch above their weight.

I will be curious to see his reaction once my Telluride gets here!

*No shade to any Acura owners
