Leading Vehicle Departure Warning

I'd like to get to the bottom of this feature. I have a 2022 SX. I have the leading vehicle departure warning checked on on my panel. It does not work and I have yet to find a Telly owner who says theirs works. The feature should alert,for example, when stopped at a light or drive thru and the car in front of you moves forward. Not once has this function worked on my car. My Subaru Forester had this same feature that worked flawlessly. I'm told that this feature works great on the Sorrento. Can someone with definitive knowledge comment on this? Please! My local Kia dealer is puzzled by it as well but they havent had many Tellurides in their stock since the Telluride came out.

If I remember correctly only works when you have SCC enabled and you come to a complete stop on a road that does not support HDA.

I don’t believe I’ve seen the warning appear on my cluster outside that particular use.

I had actually had to check the manual as I was wondering the same thing on my 2020. SCC has to be active...

I’ve had people say only when SCC is enabled which makes no sense because if I’m driving in town the minute I break SCC is disabled so using SCC can’t be a requirement for this particular feature. SCC wasn’t required on Subaru and the Telluride video mentions nothing about SCC. Seems like an oversight feature for Kia on the Telly. Very disappointing.

Mine works as described.

I DON'T step on the brakes when using this feature....the SCC will do a complete FULL STOP for you.
Once the vehicle ahead of you leaves, you'll get a warning to step on the gas pedal or the cruise control buttons (RES+ or SET -) to re-engage/resume driving.

Agreed. This part is key if you want to see the warning. Also so you won’t disable SCC at stops.

Not sure what the appeal is for leading departure alert system. Unless drivers like to look down at their phones, distracted at every red light. I’m always the one eager to move every green light change.

It’s just a feature I had on my other car that I got used to having. You can get distracted depending how long your sitting and doesn’t have to be a phone distraction. Also, I do use my brakes because I find SCC more annoying when doing around town driving. I don’t know many that use cruise around town. There’s no need for this feature to need SCC in order to work properly. The Sorrento’s works same as Subaru, which is odd. Also keep in. Mind red light stops aren’t the only time for distractions or for not looking ahead. Ever been stopped for hours at a time on a highway cause of an accident or at a drive thru or…there’s many other things. Thank you for replying.

I know my wife's 2021 Santa Fe has the feature. And it works without SCC/cruise on. Not sure why Kia designed it that way for the Telluride. Perhaps in some future refresh it will be changed. But for now it is what it is.

Many other newer Hyundais and Kias have a leading vehicle departure alert system that works all the time, not limited to under smart cruise. But older models like the Telluride and Palisade (released in 2019) haven’t received that feature yet. Perhaps it will happen with their mid-cycle refresh.

So...the OP has a 2022 and it doesn't seem to work that way.

My 2021 Sonata has this feature, and it works regardless of the cruise control status. As @Usastew mentioned (nice picture, by the way ), this is actually more helpful to me in non-highway scenarios than in highway (or cruise control) scenarios. Her example of drive-through lines is very applicable. It's a little thing, but nice to have if I'm not glued to watching the cars ahead of me. Especially helpful when Smart Stop is engaged (though I don't know if Smart Stop is part of the Telluride technology packages - I hope it is!)

A few pages in, it’s mentioned but seems to be indicating how it works with cruise control. It never explicitly says cruise control is a requirement how I’m reading it, but it could be interpreted either way. I don’t have my car yet, so my knowledge is only book learnin’ at this point.

So...the OP has a 2022 and it doesn't seem to work that way.

Because the 2022 Telluride still hasn’t been meaningfully refreshed. It is basically still the same as the 2020 and 2021 model years (originally introduced in 2019).

Newer redesigns (Sorento, Carnival, etc) will definitely have it because they have been redone since 2020 when they started adding this feature.

So I also verified with my sales guy that sold me my Telluride. He has a Sorrento and the feature does work the same way as my Subaru on his Sorrento. I feel it’s an oversight on Kia’s part on the Telluride. Overall I do love my Telluride but with all the driver assistance features and technology I wouldn’t see that as something to overlook.

It’s very contradicting. But why would you need to use SCC in order for that function to work? I’m most likely using that in town when I’m driving and i don’t use SCC in town. Look at the WARNING on the manual. It makes it sound like it might work or it might not, well it doesn’t work. It’s disappointing.

Yes I have auto hold. I haven’t played with auto hold very much but even manual doesn’t mention it in conjunction with the LVDA
