Unfortunately this is a common problem with many modern push to start cars these days. I don’t understand why the fob is designed not to unlock when the engine is running either.
At one point I was considering modding that plastic cover over the key hole to make it easier to access with the physical key, but when I tried to contact dealers to buy a spare cover, I was not successful.

If you have a 2020 US Telluride, the CarLink remote start app for the Accessorides kit is super responsive. I’ve just been using that to lock/unlock the car while running with my family waiting inside, while I go to grab takeout. Takes 2 seconds for the command to work through the app.
Great to know that my issues are not a one-off, Tellthemride.. I dumped my 2017 Hyundai Tucson for the Telluride after the dual clutch transmission class action lawsuit but never had this issue with the push button Tucson & remote, I assume same as Kia at that time. Bought my 2020 in March, read all the Accesorides posts and will definitely convert from UVO if nothing better exists at that time. My Nissan Maxima Platinum offers key fob remote start plus app remote start for 8 bucks a month. WTF?
