• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The Kia site is showing that a map update will be available in August. New version will be "MAP VERSION AFTER UPDATE NA.12.41.51.593 (V13.0)".
Now for the best part. They charge $145 for the download. HAHAHAHAHA.
Sadly, my Kia maps will become obsolete just like my other vehicles' system maps have.
Do they really think we'll pay such an obscene price for a map update when we can use Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze for free??? I certainly WILL NOT.
Stupid and poor customer service...

They must have realized by now that they screwed up with the low price point, so the bean counters are trying to recoup some of that back. I wouldn't be surprised for MY2021 the price goes ⬆

Map updates on my BMW, Mercedes was always upward of $250 to $350....

I agree they should offer the map update when you get a oil change or something done at a reduced price. They would sell more updates. Just like the UVO app! If they charge too much I’ll just drop the service.

I agree due to the fact that there are so many free app alternatives that update all the time and provide better directions. However, most of these in-car setups are licensed from Tom-Tom, Garmin, etc and the licensing fees are crazy high and Kia is just passing it in to the consumer like every other auto manufacturer. Same goes for things like Sirius XM...why would anyone pay the $5-9 a month when Apple Music or Spotify blow it out of the water in terms of music quantity, audio quality, and features other than sports radio???

This is roughly the same price Kia has always charged, and one of the reasons I was uninspired to update my 2012 Optima navi. Also, the whole process was painful with the length of time to download, etc. and the dealer wouldn’t perform the update. I would probably do it if it could be thrown into a service at the dealer, along with a coupon discount

I wanted to add that by not purchasing the map updates over the years in my Optima, there were some funny quirks in the navigation map due to changes where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area... like the newer portion of the San Francisco Bay Bridge was moved over quite a bit from the old portion it replaced, such that my Optima navi thought I was driving IN the water 😀 Also sections of freeway near me which have been expanded to add lanes and re-aligned as well as changed or added freeway exits would cause the old navigation to get very confused. There’s so much construction and constant changes in my region.

Now that I have the Telluride, at least those map items are current, but now I live in a newly constructed neighborhood, and so the navi doesn’t even recognize my own address or neighborhood at all, so I use a nearby intersection for “home.” (This is actually recommenced even if your home address is available in navigation for security, if your car is ever stolen or shady valets or whatever, it’s better not to have your home address listed in nav.)

Anyway, Kia has previously offered specials on map updates, so if and when they do I may purchase a (discounted) update in the near future. I don’t always have cell signal everywhere I drive, so I do rely on and like the Kia nav. I prefer the display of the built in system over Apple CarPlay, just a personal preference.

As a FYI, for Google Maps on your phone, you can download map areas so you can use the app without a cell signal. Very handy! Lots of info on Google.

I use Waze A LOT (mostly for police reporting), but I have to admit, sometimes it bothers me that every time I have to connect/disconnect the phone to the car via the USB cable to activate Android Auto.

I know that on some phones you can have android auto via bluetooth instead via cable, sometimes having everything car dedicated (navi, music) is a little more reliable then using my phone non-stop for that.

I have Sirius on all my vehicles, and always had, I usually pay between $40 to $60 a year per car which is decent for what you get (in my opinion).

I strictly use Bluetooth for media, navi and map and have no problems. I have a samsung smartphone and know that samsung owns a few audio companies including Harmon Kardon, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Maybe Samsung auto link makes the connection simpler.
