• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Max towing safely is only 3500 lbs - prove me wrong

I don't get why people are so up in arms about the hitch. Is it annoying that it makes the tow package less desirable, sure. But it's so easy to remedy. You probably want a weight distributing hitch anyway...so just add one on.

You’re correct, on another thread someone mentioned the dealer said it was suspension related, another was due to unibody construction. Honestly the OEM hitch being rated for 351 sounds like the most logical sense, but would really like closure from Kia/Hyundai as the Palisade falls under the same hitch weight
It makes ZERO sense that it could be suspension or frame related. The GVWR of the vehicle wouldn't be what it is if the suspension or frame couldn't handle 500 lbs on it. Zero sense. I wouldn't worry about the suspension or frame at all.

A lot of people on this and the Palisade forums have been up in arms because it’s rated at a 5,000 towing capacity, and while it’s recommended in general to maintain a 10-15% of your towing weight on the tongue weight for proper balance, you won’t be able to get that number if it’s rated at 351 pounds. Sure you can remedy with a WD hitch, but Kia/Hyundai haven’t been forthcoming with an official explanation why it’s so low. I’m with you that it’s not frame/suspension related, but until it’s official it’s just pure speculation at this point.

It isn't pure speculation to assume a hitch weight limit isn't due to suspension or frame. It literally cannot be that given the vehicle's gvwr.

Way too many rumors and speculation on the 351 tongue weight. So I emailed Kia direct and just got confirmation that the manual is incorrect and the tongue weight for the factory hitch is in fact 500lbs. As for the 7 pin, Kia is working on it and should be out next year. Hope this puts this issue to bed. I know it has for me.

Um. Can you share a picture of the email with us? That goes against what everyone else here knows and would be huge.

I left a message on Mr. Dunlop's phone at KIA in Washington, DC and a follow-up letter is going to KIA HQ in Irvine, CA. WE NEED something official on this tongue weight crap, mistake in our manuals and a more comprehensive answer on the why and how those 4 pins will be corrected and if so will the 7 pin be added at NO extra cost to those of us who took the tow package on our order.. I like emails but, unless it is on OFFICIAL LETTERHEAD with a Signature (CYOA)... I have questions. When and if I get a callback as well as an official letter reply, I will post the letter in here.

No problem.
No letter head or even a signature of an actual person... doesn't make me feel anymore informed... and nothing addressing the correction of the 4 pin connectors to those of us who ordered the TOW package in the first place. Sorry.. Emails can come from anywhere without a contact point other than a phone number... Names are more precise. And laughing at the correction...a "sticker" for the manuals?? That after, I bet, MANY inquiries on just THIS matter.. Big Whoop!!!

I laughed at the sticker as well, but I also didn’t expected a new manual to be printed. My case number with Kia customer assistance is 13391335. Feel free to reference that. As for the 7 pin I didn’t ask about it specifically. I talked to 2 different dealers they said it’s coming next year but no time frame. It’s not a deal breaker for me as I had my hitch installed after delivery. Hopefully you can work out a deal with your dealer to swap the wire harness. This is the downside of being one the the first in line.

Follow up... today..Saturday, I called Mr. Dunlop in Washington KIA Office. I just got a return call and he said it was a mistake on the 351#. He stated that the issue is being worked on and.... I even suggested that those having the 4 pin...to be upgraded to the 7. He agreed but..he was not the one to make the decision. He even said that possibly, those who already converted may NOT be reimbursed if the upgrade comes through. He told me to email him the letter I also wrote to KIA USA in Irvine, CA and he would forward it through all the channels... Again...if and when I get something, I will post it here. As of now...I know Neil Dunlop ( Product and Technology ; Communications Manager) has listened.

No problem.
What I don’t get is why not fix this electronically in a downloadable manual ASAP and notify owners as quick as possible before this sticker comes out? Seems to me that dispelling the perceived poor marketing around this would be a priority.

15 years as an automotive engineer, trust me when I say this is not a priority for Kia. I’ve seen my share of issues and this is very low on the severity scale. This is a brand new vehicle, not a refresh and not a model redesign, they are dealing with a lot that most will never even know about. The whole sticker thing is pretty dumb IMO, but not the first time I’ve seen it done. Your hitch isn’t going to change because a sticker says so, just know it’s coming.
