Almost the middle of the month… when will KMMG accept new orders for Tellurides? Later this month or not ‘til June?

I would suspect not until after we at least see some info about the 2022 models be released to dealers.

I was already told that my order missed the May order period and will be updated after the June period opens.

“Missed”, do you mean KFOS opened for May and your order didn’t make it? Or dealer won’t submit for May?

thx

In another thread @StephenCantrelle said there may be another KFOS opening this month for 2022 Tellurides, and that Telly’s were excluded from KFOS earlier in the month.
i was inquiring about the possibility of another KFOS allocation later this month.

Yup! That’s why I was curious. I was told my order will be submitted for May so I am following this subject closely 😁

Oh interesting, good to know! That would be nice. I was told by my dealer that "they weren't given any allocations for Tellurides in this month's order cycle" (which is in-line with the exclusion statement in the quote) and the next window opens June 9th. I didn't know about the possibility of another May allocation. This dealer may not have known about the possibility at the time when they emailed me, or just decided not to share that information if it wasn't a sure thing or didn't find it relevant for my place in line.

@Amati5 - Yes, I *thought* I was being told that KFOS opened and closed and my order didn't get picked up / my dealer didn't get any allocations. But it sounds like I actually interpreted the message wrong and that there just wasn't even an order cycle.

Good info on the June 9th. If no Tellurides for May, 6/9 isn’t too far. Thx

So maybe I don't understand what KFOS is, but I went to order a telluride a few weeks back and our salesman told us that the ordering system for tellurides is down at the moment. However, we actually got our order placed yesterday. I just asked him if that meant an order was placed between us and the dealership or with Kia and he stated "Your order was placed with Kia to build your Telluride".

Kia Forward Ordering System is what KFOS is. There is a thread around here somewhere that describes it in good detail.
Basically when you order with the dealer they put it in their in house system called KDealer. There it sits with your options and preferences.
Typically KFOS will accept orders during a certain 4-5 days per month. During this time each dealer will be allocated a certain number of Tellurides in certain configurations. For example, a dealer with a lot of allocations may get 15 SX, 6 EX, and 3 each of S or LX. A small dealer with few allocations may get 1 SX and 1 EX… During this open period of KFOS, their system will automatically pull orders out of KDealer for production. At that big dealer it will pull a dozen or more orders. At the small dealer it may be a handful. It is ONLY when the order is automatically forwarded to KFOS that the order goes into production… and this only happens during a certain time that is discussed on this forum when it is made known. There are very rare instances where KFOS pulls a random order at random times, but this is very rare.
So based on your dealers information they are lying to you… Kia said last month that they are no longer accepting orders for 2021s, and the window for the 2022 models has yet to open. So your order may well be sitting in the dealers local system waiting to be picked up by KFOS, which will hopefully happen soon.

According to my dealer they can place an order whenever they want. It’s when KFOS accepts your order is when KIA will start on your order. When your order is accepted depends on how many your dealer is allowed to order in that month, and how many order was placed before yours. So pick your dealer wisely. I didn’t understand the system and waisted a month on a low volume dealer until I read the info on here.

question: is it process pretty much the same with other manufacturers?

As far as saying outright that the "dealer is lying," I think there's room for semantics there. "Your order was placed with Kia to build your Telluride" could certainly be their way of saying it was put in KDealer. Because ultimately an order was placed, and that order will result in a Telluride getting built - eventually. 🤷‍♂️

All of this is good information. Maybe I'm not being assertive enough with my dealer. I gave a $1k deposit on 4/19 and they sent me a sheet of paper that appeared to have my order with the car options I wanted. I haven't heard anything since. I followed up once and was told I "next" for the order to be picked up. How can I get definitive answers as to what's going on? I've never purchased a brand new car before, so dealing with these care sales people is not my strong suit and I don't want to be so aggressive that someone slides me down the list. I feel like I'm at such a disadvantage here. I've learned and gathered a lot for this forum, but any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm in the DMV area and have stated before that every dealer here is charging 7-17k over msrp.

I see your point, I guess I have a general distrust of dealers.

I think reaching out once a week to your sales person and just asking for an update is not being overly aggressive. However, as was pointed out above, it may not be that they "are lying to you" it may simply be that they themselves do not really know or understand how the process works because all they do is deal with the customer and all the other stuff is handle elsewhere by a completely different person/department. So don't be surprised if you were to ask "Has my order been picked up by KFOS?" and your salesperson not have a clue what you are talking about. In his defense he took your order handed it to the "order person" and got a sheet back that said "Submitted successfully" In his world, he's done his part, you just need to wait.

And to some degree he's correct, even if he told you the order was picked up, it's not coming to the dealer any sooner than it's going to be there. Sure it would be nice to know, but it's not going to change the timeline or the process at all.

So my best advice would be to check in weekly with limited expectations, and just wait. Continue to watch Failcat for your order configuration under your dealer and then ask Stephen to track it with your initials to confirm it's yours. That's about the best you can do really.

That's standard practice from my experience. I placed an order locally at 3K over MSRP and they send me a photo of the order in Kdealer with the options - it's just a form with a code for the model and some codes for the options - and a photo of a very simple invoice. They said they'd contact me when they had an update, but it might be 6-8 weeks until then. I eventually backed out because I didn't want to pay that much over and was willing to wait longer somewhere else for a better price.

Don't get stressed out that you're not doing enough, or that they're not doing enough, that's just how it works right now. The more people are bombarding them with phone calls and emails, the harder and slower it gets for them to contact people who have actual updates and needed info. Unless you have a clear reason not to trust them, I would just trust them.

This is my game plan for now. Just wanted to get some clarity on why I was told my order was placed with Kia when I see a lot of talk about orders not being taken on this forum.

Sounds like you’re in a good position, except for the dealer markup. Lots of dealers on here just charging MSRP, but you’re gonna have to wait a little longer. Up to you if money is worth time.

Yup! This is correct, at least with my dealer. The sale persons don’t knows the status of an order or how many orders they have until they ask the person(s) in charge of the orders.
