We took delivery of "Penny" yesterday, so named for her good looks and the fact it's first time we've ever splurged for the top trim line. (In case you can't tell, I love a good wordplay).
Penny is an SX AWD in Dark Moss with Nightfall, with a Butterscotch interior (and Tow).
Thanks to this awesome forum, we found her at Halleen Kia of Sandusky, located just outside of Cleveland. They were a great to work with, no MSRP markup -- I'll share those deets in another post.
We live in VA (just outside of DC), so when I learned the original ETA was for Tu 8/4, I booked cheap flights for my husband and I on Southwest ($50 tickets). It was a straight shot from BWI to Cleveland, barely an hour inside the plane so I felt pretty good about the minimal risk of COVID, tho flying in general during these times was a concern. A week prior, the dealer called me to say the delivery ETA had pushed to Fri 8/7, the day before our flight, so I started to get anxious about it possibly slipping. It turned out, she showed up early, arriving on Wed, and everything went smoothly.
We flew into Cleveland yesterday, arriving close to noon. Our sales guy picked us up and drove us the 40 min back to the dealer. We spent a long time (longer than I wanted) going through all the machinations of the sale but everything went smoothly. Finally we were on the road at 4:30p, facing a ~400 mile drive home.
Aside from the initial confusion of figuring out how things worked, it was a fabulously easy drive. I've never had adaptive cruise control before and I love it. I barely touched the pedals for long stretches.
We finally got home just before midnight. The last 5 miles took us through parkland and the deer were out in full force. I was terrified we'd smash into a deer less than 5 minutes from home.
Thankfully we made it home with no incidents and on only one tank of gas!
Our always-on-the-go dog had us up at 6am ready to run, so we got to test out Penny's usefulness as a dog hauler at 0630. The cargo space is small with the 3rd row up but it accommodated our other baby
. I'll be investing in a good cargo liner asap.
Pictures included, taken at different times to show how different Moss looks in different lighting.
And oh yes, this will be replacing a 2007 Honda Odyssey that is just shy of 200,000 miles. We like to keep our vehicles and drive them, so I'm looking forward to many miles with Penny.
