• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I may get delivery of my new Telly one day before I MUST take off on a 400 mile trip. Have to decide.......use my small Ford Escape or take the big boy, Just concerned about "overdoing" the breakin!

Go in the new toy! I have never ever heard of anyone in the past 3 decades that they f--ed up the break-in period. That's a thing of the past, unless you drive it like a NYC taxi cab.

400 miles may be a lot in Central PA, but that's an easy day trip in Texas! :)

You paid for it, drive it

Congrats … be sure to learn about the new features of your vehicle before you hit the road. You don't want to be distracted while trying to "figure out" how to use or adjust something.

after a month, we have over 3200 on ours... Did a 120 mile trip home from the dealership with no problems...do kit. It will give you a great opportunity to learn all about your new ride.

Nothing nicer than you and your new Telly riding 400miles alone. You’ll thank us later

OK......pretty much the encouragement I was hoping I would hear from you guys! Fortunately, I have actually read the online manual ( well at least the parts that actually tell you something about how it all works........I ignore the kind of stuff that says "don't fold the seats while someone is sitting in them") and I do enjoy sitting behind the wheel programing all the options SO, I probably will take it for the trip if it gets here on time. 30th new car in 51 years.....maybe this one will out live me! :ROFLMAO:

Hammer Down!

I am going to be the problem child.

Where are you going? What are you doing? 400 miles into the high desert with no other vehicle, no? Going to be loading up your whole house, no. Going to tow 5,000 pounds through the Himalayans? No. Are you going to run it like 24 hours at Le Mans? No.

Are you going to go 400 miles mostly on highway in which you will vary the rpm and moderating load your car, ok knock yourself out.

Just don't drive like a mad man.

The manual indicates "Do not maintain a single speed for long periods of time, either fast or slow." How long exactly is "long period of time"? Half hour? I have a 600 mile 11 hour trip ahead of me, which I assume is mostly highway driving. I would like to adhere to the break in process as much as possible.

I think you'll be fine.. most highways change speed limits depending on population.. go from 70, 65,55.. if you don't experience that, then if you are in a 70, go from70 to 75, then back to 70 every once in a while.

You should be fine. Did the same type of trip with a Highlander. Got 220K+ miles on it now with no oil use. They key to break in on a trip like that is to not use the cruise control and regularly vary your speed

I drove mine home 485 from the dealer I bought it at (gave me an unbelievable deal - well worth the drive)...

In addition to the speed limit varying and traffic causing speed variations, you can also pop the shifter to manual mode and drop it down from 8 to 7 - that'll take the revs up a little (cause they're taking about varying engine speed, not MPH), after a while back to 8 - then repeat every so often if you're truly on an open road all by yourself with no outside factors varying your speed...

Go for it, you'll love it...

While his cautions are a bit exaggerated, I do agree with @Gwyn - gotta be a reasonable trip/load/speed
