Never Thought I’d Buy a Kia

We read so many negative reviews on the XC90 that we didn’t even bother test driving it. Sounds like that was a good call.

The XC90 T6 drove like a beast though, not so much the case with the T5. I hated that everything in that car was a part of their touch screen. The monitor just did not seem responsive enough.

First Kia and not a car snob by any means but like the title of the thread says..."Never thought I'd buy a Kia." This car checked all of the boxes for our family and after 2,500 miles in our SWP SXP we have been quite impressed. Our previous cars have been a '96 Toyota Tacoma, '97 Honda Accord, '05 Acura TL, '14 Mercedes E250 (Bluetec), '18 Tesla Model 3, and our previous family car was a '11 Honda Odyssey Elite so we have owned cars across the board in terms of reputation and reliability.

What sold us on this car quite honestly was that it looks great, was designed and built in the US, and has tons of safety features so I feel more reassured with my wife and kids in the car for the most part. The cargo space with the 3rd row up is also impressive. We have kids who play hockey so having enough room for their big, stinky bags without dropping the 3rd row is definitely a plus as well.

Seriously, right! $80K+ on an oversized Tahoe. And I love Tahoes. I drove one for 15 years but no way I'm spending $60K on a new one. Traded it in with 215K miles for a Telluride. Best decision ever.

We test drove a Yukon Denali a few weeks back. Super nice and the towing is legit, but the lack of room in the back of that vehicle was absolutely ridiculous for the size. I legit dont know if you can fit paper grocery sacks back behind them. 2nd row doesnt slide so only small children and dwarves have any hope of actually sitting back there.

When Kia first started selling cars in the US in the mid-90s, I was in high school. I recall hearing someone remark at the time that Kia was a terrible name for a car company, since KIA in military parlance stands for “killed in action”. I agreed!

In the years since, I’ve never had any desire to own or even consider a Kia product.

Their lineup has always seemed like one aimed at the teeming masses who simply need an economical way to get from A to B. Nothing wrong with that, obviously; the brand just never excited me much. My wife has always felt the same. Even before we met.

Fast forward to today: we can’t wait to get our hands on our new Kia Telluride SX Prestige in a week and a half! It’s kind of silly how giddy we are to get it.

Maybe we’ve just bought into the hype and will be sorely disappointed when we take delivery because it will be impossible for reality to meet our sky-high expectations at this point, but something tells me we won’t be.

The advent of this new Telluride tells me that Kia is hungry to overcome their reputation for simply producing affordable, unexciting, economy cars and move up market to go toe-to-toe with the big boys.

If the Telluride is Kia’s shot across the bow, I say the big boys better watch out!

Welcome to the Family. I have had my "Beast" for a month now and love it to death. My last car being 20 years old, I did a lot of research before buying and kept coming back to the Telluride. I got the S trim because I wanted the second row captains chairs and it had all the features I needed without spending the extra bucks on the SX. The wife and I are extremely happy with our Kia.
