  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Thanks for accepting me into the group. I have a month old 2021 SX in Gravity Gray Nightfall edition. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and it replaces a Mazda CX-5 and prior to that a Subaru WRX, which were both excellent winter and snow cars. So far it’s great. I do notice it seems to slide more when stopping in certain snow conditions than previous cars I’ve owned. (All with Blizzaks) I assume that this is due to the extra weight of the Telluride. I’m curious what others drivers experiences might be. We have a very dry snow that normally is pretty good in terms of traction. I’d
also like to know what different experiences people have had using the snow setting. I‘be left it on the auto setting so far.

And I absolutely love the car. Drove it into Denali Park last weekend with my two dogs and the sunroofs were fantastic.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your brand new Telluride! Nice upgrade from the Mazda CX-5! I'm glad you found us. :)

Hi fellow Alaskan! I was hoping to see if you can help me in your method in getting a telluride in Alaska since the local dealership in Anchorage is charging $9,995 above MSRP and was wondering what option you took in getting one.

Thanks!!!

I paid full price in Anchorage plus 400 for shipping to Fairbanks. It was worth every cent.

It's the extra weight.

I took Telly up to the mountains with OEM Michelin Primacy Tour tires on 20" SX rims during a rare blizzard in CA and it performed fine in icy snowy conditions except for one morning when I was just driving to the store before dawn and I noticed that one thing you mentioned.

If I had Blizzaks on some 17" or 18" wheels, things would have gone much better, but I started gently braking sooner, 30-50 yards before where I'd normally apply brakes to get maintain traction and keep the Telly from slipping away from me.

Snow Mode + Lock under 25 mph generally works fine. I need to run the experiment again with Blizzaks to compare the difference.

I did use Snow Mode above 25 mph (where the front/rear electronically-controlled torque "lock" normally disengages automatically) and it performed great at 35 mph. I used a lot of engine braking playing around with the "manual" shifts between 2-3-4 and adjusted braking distances, especially if any grades were more downhill than flat.

The sliding was with all four Blizzaks, correct?

What was the inflation for the tires? 35? a little under? over?

Thanks. You’re absolutely and we had some especially bad weather right when I bought. It’s great and now that I’m used to size I like it even better.
