Order to delivery time

Im somewhat disappointed that my dealer has not been forthcoming with information. All I have a been told is that my order has been “picked up by KIA” but I have no VIN and only a verbal ETA about delivery end of October.

What would you interpret as being “Picked up by KIA”?
Your order was entered into KFOS (Kia Forward Ordering System), which means your telly is being built. You should receive a VIN about a month before your ETA. So you're on the right track, no need to worry. Just keep checking FC for your vin or contacting your dealership for an update every so often.

I don’t think it means his Telly is being built. His order has been filled by Kia, and the raw materials necessary to build it are probably forecast to be available in the supply chain. I would guess when you get the ETA, the vehicle is put on the schedule to be built. When you get the VIN, then it is finally being built.

AB Chad is my rep. I placed the original order with the new car sales manager.
Ah.. In Georgia, that's why it's such quick ship date. Us in the Pacific NW have to wait over a month for transit times!

Yes sorry thats what I meant by being built. The very early, initial steps of getting to be built.

recently I have been looking at anything and everything out there trying to find a comparable vehicle for like $.
I have been wanting to buy a Telluride for over a year and a half, and I have been over and over this...there is nothing comparable! And forget about the Palisade. Never. The Palisade is a perfectly functional machine but U-G-L-Y.
If the Telluride were Marilyn Monroe, the Palisade would be Miss Piggy.

Word... even though mechanically the same, the Palisade is just a weird futuristic looking mess. The Telluride is hot.

I'm currently resisting the urge to text my salesperson again to say "did it show up today"!?!? Yesterday he made joke (I think) saying he couldn't wait for my Telly to come in so I'd leave him alone.

The last week is BRUTAL knowing it could show up at any moment.

Did you see the article about Palisade having some shitty smell after a few thousand miles?

Not picking on you, but there’s always the Palisade 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I certainly understand the frustration for sure.

I like the looks of the Palisade but the Limited (now Caligraphy) trim are missing some things that are musts for us. Lack of Auto up/down on all windows, traditional shifter and the black wheels on the SX. I like the digital dash and the way the Palisade looks overall. But I can not stand the wheels on the top trim model. My wife on the other hand doesn't like the quilted leather seats and isn't a fan of the exterior. Plus our neighbor bought a Palisade SEL last winter and she didn't want to run out and "copy" them.

So we wait.

I believe you and I have similar ETAs. 10/04 here

I test drove a Palisade Limited last month - strictly out of boredom and curiosity - and found it to be a good drive. I was actually impressed with the dial shifter, but have seen others on here share they're not fans of it. Speaking from a point of genuine curiosity, what's the argument against the dial shifter?

We were looking at the SEL, similar to the EX. There were certain packages we would have had to add on to just get some of the features the basic EX had, and the misses wasn't a fan of all of the packages. If I remember, it was the Convenience and drive guidance packages. She just wasn't a fan. TBH, the cabin is pretty 'snazzy'. I actually liked the idea of the 'purse prop' space in the center. But she, nor I, could get over that electronic push shifter. As for exterior styling, I like the side profile - looked to me like a Traverse which is what we originally looked at. But the push button and that front styling alligator snout just didn't do it for us.

Edited after @MarcinTexas's comment. The dial is, as said, for drive modes. I though you actually were trying to reference the push button shifter.

For me, my argument against was that the car felt too slow to shift gears.

That said, manufactures have been putting these in luxury cars for several years now and they're starting to make a wider appearance in vehicles in other segments across multiple manufacturers. GM had some tape deck style button setup in a Terrain ('18 i think). I may not have paid attention to it much before, but quite a few 2020s have this shift by wire set up. Honda has these push button shifters in several of their 2020s. Hyundai has it in other vehicles as well.

With these electronic systems, it makes it easier to automate functions, like recall or automated driving, parking assist, etc. As we see more control given to software driven applications or hybrid set ups, I assume these shift by wire setups are going to become mainstream.

The dial is for the driving mode. The shifter is actually an oddly placed series of buttons. I am just old school. I like resting my hand on the shifter while I drive.

Yes, you're both right. I was referencing the push button shifter, not the dial. Totally understand using the shifter as a place to rest the hand and I do it all the time

Same. Is it a 'guy' thing? She always gets so angry when I do it. Years of having a manual, I guess.

Yeah - my daily driver is a 2015 Chevy SS with a manual transmission. I am a manual transmission fan to the core. I just like having something on the center console for my hand. I also like the mechanical interaction with shifting the gears...even though they all have electronic linkages these days. I do wish the Telluride had paddle shifters. I like controlling the gears while I driving in hilly or mountainous terrain.

My husband can't drive stick.... he'll never understand the feeling of executing a perfectly timed 3-2 shift as you round a corner. I miss driving a manual transmission. I don't miss sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in said manual transmission.

It's been about 10 years since I sold my 2006 Lancer Evo IX and I still rest my hand on the gear select/shifter despite not driving a manual on any consistent basis since then.
