Order to delivery time

I ordered my SX-P on 6/24. Just was given the VIN and EDD of 9/1 and was so excited. I checked the window sticker and the dealer didn’t order the prestige despite the fact that I confirmed multiple times. They charged us extra for ebony paint though. Now I have to decide to accept the order without prestige or wait again. My lease is up so I’ll be without a car. I’m so angry right now. Maybe I’ll end up with the Mazda CX-9 afterall - this has been nothing but a headache.

Sorry about that! Yes, it would be unreasonable to expect a 9/1 delivery on an order from 6/24 for an SX-P. Also, SX Prestige orders were not able to be placed on 6/24 - they closed in mid-May and re-opened on 7/25. I remember your initial post back in June - and we all said that they couldn't have placed the order! So, not sure why you are so angry? You wrote that you weren't concerned because your deposit was refundable.

The delivery time for SX-P is closer to 3-5 months. Yes, ebony paint is an upcharge. If the price is good for you (i.e. they aren't charging a markup then I'd just get the non-prestige SX and save yourself the cash. The CX-9 is nice, but MUCH smaller and the tech is older compared to the Telluride. You'll love the SX. I considered the CX-9 GT and Signature, but they don't hold a candle to the Telluride when it comes to cabin space, and overall comfort.

BUT, you can get a deal on a Mazda CX-9 right now - a minimum of $6000 off list prices (since you are a current owner too). Something to consider...

Maybe someone can help with a somewhat related question...

I've been trying to find a Black/Butterscotch AWD SX for awhile now in Southern California. There have been a 1 or 2 that popped up in the LA area but dealers there are asking for 10k above MSRP with only a little room for negotiation.
Since I live in the San Diego area I've been trying to work with Kia Carlsbad since they are not adding anything to the MSRP. So we "ordered" one through them but as the days have gone by and we've asked more questions, they're now saying that they don't really ORDER the car, but that if a black/butterscotch comes in, it's ours. That's not really an order. That's just a place in line.
Is this everyone else's experience too? Or are you actually sending an order to manufacturing plant in Georgia and then getting a car when it's ready?

Thanks in advance for any help!

My understanding is that it is a little bit of both. When you “place an order” it isn’t with the factory, but with the dealer. Dealers all get a certain allocation of “special orders” in addition to whatever the factory sends (and those special orders are across the entire Kia lineup, so it’s not X Tellurides a month, it is X vehicles a month). The dealer can put in as many orders as they want, but only X get picked up by the factory each month. The factory chooses, probably based on what color/trim is running across the line and based on dealer volume, what orders to process from which dealers. So, it’s a bit of a crap shoot on when your order will be picked up. For me, I ordered June 22nd, and my order still hasn’t been picked up by the factory. Others who ordered around the same timeframe are taking delivery.

Not sure, but if I had to guess your being in line means they put the order into their system, but will also let you know if one shows up on a truck before then.

Thank you very much! That finally makes sense about how the whole process works.

You can request that they place a sold order - presumably you put a deposit? Some dealers will also "order" without a deposit. Orders are fulfilled by the factory though... and it does depend on your dealer's sales of other vehicles. Some dealers can't actually order for various reasons (punishment, probation, etc). Anyway, I received a printout from Kia's internal system with my sold order details stating price and all details. Can negotiate that up front.

But, charris1 describes the process well.

I wasn’t expecting the delivery for 9/1 - they just told me today and when I looked it up I noticed there’s no prestige. The reason I’m angry is because I’ve confirmed multiple times that they ordered it with the prestige package and they kept lying. That was the entire reason I even went with Ebony black. Otherwise I wouldn’t have paid extra for it.

I’m going to take a look at the Palisade and figure out if I want that or settle for the Telluride without prestige. I really wanted the HUD which comes standard with the CX-9 on Grand Touring and above. Plus I lease with Mazda so I have some loyalty cash there and like you mentioned they’re having some good deals right now. If only my husband wasn’t so tall and I could do without the extra legroom.

Sounds like a good plan. Just don't let them try to charge you the SX-P price for the normal SX of course! The Palisade is nice - but note no power folding mirrors, and try to negotiate a discount to MSRP. They haven't had any incentives in my area - so the decision was SX-P at 45k, Palisade FWD Limited at $47k, or CX-9 Signature at about $40-41k. CX-9 GT in range of $37k. Another great option maybe to lease a CX-9 for a while and then get Telluride... it's tough. Your Kia dealer just told you what you wanted to hear and kept stringing you along. But, if your getting an FWD SX at about 43k less rebates, then you'll be doing quite well... and saving the cash. It's a shame that forum members know more about the vehicle and ordering process than many Kia salespeople. Sad day though.

Thank you for your help! I’m not sure what we’re going to do yet. My husband wants to check out the Palisade first so we know our options before going in. Depending on how the dealership handles our complaints about the ordering process we may walk away or accept the SX without prestige.

I only ordered ebony as part of what I thought was the prestige package and was not told it’s an upcharge. Do they charge extra if you get prestige?

Yes, ebony black is a $395 addition on all trims because it's a tricoat process I suppose. I believe that the only colors that don't have an upcharge are Moss Green and Everlasting Silver and Gravity Grey.

Prestige is just a $2000 addition on top of AWD SX, or $4000 on top of FWD SX (requires AWD). Nappa leather, hud, etc. as you know. The ebony black would have been a separate charge even on prestige.

Hello,
Go to the KIA website and build a Telluride. Some of the paint colors are a upcharge. Like $395

Oh I did not know that! They didn’t tell us that when we chose it either. They changed the website a lot since I ordered. I feel like it wouldn’t let me click on that without adding prestige but I’m probably mistaken.

I finally have a VIN, window sticker looks as expected. SXP Black Copper on Brown Nappa with tow package. Ordered May 4th, expected delivery August 31st. Going to surprise the wife who is just about to give birth in the next few weeks.

😀
Happy for you! I'd probably have mine (same specs ordered same date) by then had they not messed up my order. Post some pics once you get it!

Black copper is the only color that can be only be ordered with the SX trim. But, it also has an upcharge.

My Telluride has arrived!! Ordered my Moss SX with butterscotch interior and towing package on June 22. I go to pick it up tomorrow!!!! Beyond excited!
Congrats and welcome to the forum. Be safe and enjoy

Where do you go when your dealer is non responsive? I ordered an SXP Moss/Black, towing, side boards on 4/19 with a deposit. I see similar vehicles being delivered on here with later order dates. When I call and get a response it is 'nothing yet' or 'We will let you know when we get a VIN'. I understand a delay on a new model but would think more than 4 months in I would have a more defined answer or something.

I ordered a SX awd on 5/28 and was told by dealer it would be 60-90 day build time. I checked in early August and was told it would be September. Now I just received an email stating it would be coming in October!!!??? What is going on?

How long does it normally take after the manufacturer accepts the order? My dealer said my order has been accepted by the manufacturer, but hasn't been factory allotted. Any idea what's going on? Ordered Black SXP on July 25th with black nappa

You should see it around October... 3 months minimum. Accepted doesn't really mean much... just that they are acknowledging it. When it gets allocated you'll get a VIN
